The Sea of Life.

Goldfinch60

I sit on the cliff and look out to sea

Watching the smooth water

Reaching towards the horizon.

I see my life

Sailing into the distance

The horizon getting near.

My sea of life has been smooth,

Sailing with the breeze at my back,

Moving me forwards,

Across the waves of my being.

There have been storm clouds,

There have been rough seas,

But so few and far between.

The journey has been long

It has been so wonderful.

As I near my horizon

I look back to the cliff

And see myself,

Looking out to sea.

A fine write Gold. I was on the ship too, but I ruined it for everyone, as I started singing! No escape but to jump into the sea! lol.

That's when we through you overboard and you swam into that whales mouth and met Jonah.

Thanks for caring & sharing ANDY ~ Love MENDELSSOHN alwas so evocative & soothing ! I like your philosophy (my end is not yet in sight !). I really loved this one Andy.... it has such a peaceful flow to it.... what does Die Hebriden mean?

        • Goldfinch60

          Hi Lorna,

Thank you for your kind comments.

The piece of music is called 'The Hebrides' - Die Hebriden in German. It was written by Felix Mendellsohn in 1830, it was written to commemorate one of his journeys to the UK and a trip to the Island of Staffa where Fingals Cave is situated - I have been to that island and it is wonderful.

Sounds magical... for now I'll have to be content with armchair travel through your poems!

I like this piece. It can be very relatable, and as Lorna said, 'it is very peaceful'. I always enjoy the water. There is no bad in it. Maybe that is why it is separate from other people.
            This is a great piece.
            Persistence is key

Did ya know Jonah too? Was it you chucked me out of the boat?!

              • Goldfinch60

I was talking to him the previous day when he heard somebody trying to sing and through himself overboard. I didn’t throw you over but I didn’t interfere with KP who did!

              • orchidee

I forgot that I married KP. I been so oblivious to her. Aww, why she chuck me overboard?! lol

You tried to hold her hand but it was the wrong time for her.
