Tune: Woodlands
('Tell out my soul')
Psalm 133 (v.1-3); Psalm 131 (v.4-8)
*********
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
Yes, good and pleasant, it is found in this
That brethren together in unity
Dwell, and in the Lord's love, goodness they be
It is like to the precious ointment flow
Poured upon the head, and running down so
To the beard of Aaron [the High Priest], then flowing free
Reaching to edges of his garments, see
It is like the dew of Hermon anew
And as the dew on mounts of Zion too
For there the Lord commanded blessing sure
Which is even life now and evermore
Lord, my heart, it is not haughty or high
Nor my eyes lofty, they do not despy (despise)
In great matters I have not exercised
And in things too high I have not applied
Peace now, my soul, and meditate a while
Retain no thoughts evil, so not defile
Your communion sweet here with the One
Who has saved you, freed by His loving Son
I wait, stop, behave, quieten myself sure
Behave as child weaned of his mother pure
In humility, meekness, free from strife
Trusting Christ who for me gave up His life
My soul, all in it, mind, emotions, will
Thoughts, and all else in it, active, yet still
Content to abide in His presence sweet
To kneel and adore Him, fall at His feet
Yes, my soul, even as a weaned child is
Childlike simplicity, He mine, I His
Hope in the LORD, now from henceforth trust too
Hope e'en for ever, e will you renew
