Pentecost Proclamations

Tune: Vruechten

('The joyful Eastertide')

Acts 2 v.16-21

*******

Peter at Pentecost

Explains of the Holy Ghost

He said the prophecy

Has been fulfilled, completely

Chorus

Here is the Spirit sure

He will stay now evermore

He shall us empower

To meet needs of each hour

Each hour, each hour

Each ho-o-o-our!

The prophecy of Joel

God by His Spirit makes us whole

Does make, for His promise

Comes to pass, we it not miss - Chorus

This is that which Joel spoke

All believers may partake

For God says, In last days

I shall pour out my Spirit always - Chorus

Upon all flesh He pours

His Spirit, all worships, adores

On sons, daughters, young, old

And too on servants, maidens, behold - Chorus

Prophesyings, visions

Believers equipped for missions

And dreams, revealings known

Interpreted by Him alone - Chorus

And wonders in heaven

And signs in earth to all men (mankind)

Blood, fire, vapour of smoke

Man (mankind) to need of salvation woke - Chorus

Sun to darkness be turned

Moon to blood shall be discerned

Before [the] day of Lord come

Great day all see, not just some - Chorus

And it shall come to pass

That men (and women) of each colour, race, class

Who on the Lord shall call

On His name shall be saved all - Chorus

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem with verses and chorus in 6767 metre. A bit tricky in some verses to get the longer 'extended' notes at the end of some lines. 'Vruechten' is a 17th Century Dutch folk-song tune. Peter explains the phenomenon of the Holy Spirit being given to all believers.

Good write. As its Pentecost today the Church choir has been getting an anthem ready to sing to the congregation, I shall be there warbling away with my bass voice.

Oohh good, let\'s sing up. Will many follow the tradition of Whit Sunday - White Sunday - and wear something white? We don\'t have to, but I hardly ever wear black, to church or anywhere. Well, maybe only black socks.
