Tune: St George's, Windsor
('Come, ye thankful people, come')
Hebrews 5 v.5-9
*********
Christ did not self glorify
To become high priest, but by
God His Father was He made
Such a priest, our price He paid
For God said to Him, "You are
My Son greater one by far
Today I have begotten
You, my own, my only Son"
As also is written too
You, a priest for ever you
After the order here sure
Of Melchizedek* e'ermore
You in days of flesh on earth
When you came of humble birth
Offered up prayers, called unto
Your Father, He helped anew
Offered supplications, prayers
Unto your Father who hears
With strong crying and with tears
Were heard for your godly fears
Cried unto God, he able
To save from death, possible
Yet you did your Father's will
Died for us to save us still
Though He were a Son, yet [He] learned
Obedience, for God [He] yearned
Learned it through His sufferings
As He did endure those things
And so being made perfect
Became author, no defect
Of eternal salvation
To all that obey Him, [His] sons [and daughters]

mentioned often in Hebrews, pre-figuring Christ.

Thanks Brian. I had another tune in mind, but could find no clip for it. Not to wish the year away quickly! Is he MEL for short?!
