The Parakeet Sings
She was a vocal part of the family
Singing there all her days
She green and yellow very beautifully
And eating fruit in her cage
All the days she was a twitter
As if breaking news
The excitement there very contagious
With the dog excited too
Both the little pussy cats
Loved to paw at her
As if they ever had a chance
With a bird that uttered words
Occasionally she would say
There wasn’t enough room
And I heard that she said
She’d be leaving soon
She lived there many more days
In the childrens’ minds
And they recalled that fateful day
She broke free and climbed

YELLOW BIRD ~ High in Banana Tree
YELLOW BIRD ~ Too cute to be in a cage
YELLOW BIRD ~ so so glad you're FREE
HI WC ~ love PARAKEETS especially in the Wild ~ or a big Bird Sanctuary ! My Parents have a "natural aviary" outside their French Window and get over 25 species in a Year (they are near the Coast). They have trees and bird~boxes (Blue Tits this year !) feeders and bird~baths ! They have an eco~pond with a Waterfall all the BIRDS love it. None of my extended Family have ever owned a caged bird ! Thanks for caring & sharing ~ Yours BRIAN
Thanks for your comments, Brian. Here in East Texas there are only caged parakeets, and they're mostly bought from pet stores. It would really be exciting to see one in the wild. There used to be a Carolina Parakeet, but it went extinct. Thanks for sharing~ WC
Good story told in a fine way. In the UK we have colonies of parakeets in some places, they came about from escaped pets. If you walk through Hyde Park in London you can see hundreds of them.
Thanks, Goldfinch! I can only imagine what a colony of parakeets looks like although I have seen them on TV. I'm sure they've escaped in the US, but I have not heard of any significant in number.
