Tune: Slane
('Be thou my vision')
Galatians 2 v.16-21
********
Know this, that mankind is not justified
By the works of the law, not in them confide
To bring about salvation, cannot be done
'Tis only through Christ, He the Father's own Son
So even we have believed in Him true
That we might be justified, and so be you
By faith in Christ and not by works of the law
So is our salvation secured evermore
For by the works of the law shall flesh none
Be justified, no sinners, not even one
But if while we seek by Christ our state to be
Justified, though sinners, how is it here, see?
Is therefore Christ the minister to sin?
God forbid, for it is from our sin within
For if I do build again what I destroyed
I make myself a transgressor thus employed
For I through the law am to the law dead
That I might live unto God, he be my Head
I am crucified with Christ, and yet I live
But 'tis Christ lives in me, an did His life give
The life I now live in the flesh I live
By faith in the Son of God, He does em give
His life to me, for He loved me, and He gave
Himself for me and for all sinners to save
I do not then the grace of God frustrate
Do not cancel it out nor abbreviate
For if righteousness comes by the law, here, see
Then Christ died in vain and it was needlessly

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 10.11.11.11. metre in a short series. I have started at Chapter 2, as Chapter 1 is mostly autobiographical of St Paul, not lending itself to a hymn-poem format.

Thanks STEVE for sharing "BE THOU ............." always one of my faves ! Love the pathos in this version and the visual ! Love your take on GALATIANS 2 ~ Not so much a Poem ~ more a Talking Blues ! I recited it out loud with one hand on my ear ~ PERFECT ! Yours BRIAN
Thanks Brian. What's that 'one ear thing' again? The clip has a 'shortened' version - misses out some words. Some get in a tangle over the line: 'Be all else but naught to me, save that thou art'!
Good one once more Orchi.
Thanks Gold.
