I REMEMBER YOU
Your name was SUE
You were dressed in BLUE
And we made Love that's TRUE
In the morning in the glistening DEW
OI REMEMBER SUE!
I REMEMBER YOU
When you lost your SHOE
Like Cinderella ~ she once do
Twas like a CANOE ~ size TWENTY TWO
An' I come runnin' paddlin' runnin' after YOU
OI REMEMBER SUE!
I REMEMBER YOU
Do you remember TOO ?
You went on VSO to TIMBUKTU
My aching Heart went with you TOO
And since the I've been O so O so ~ BLUE
O I REMEMBER SUE !
And when my Life is also THROUGH
And the ANGELS ~ will ask me to recall
The absolute exquisite ~ THRILL of it ALL
Then I will tell them ~ be sure to really tell them
O YES ~ O YES ~ I REMEMBER ~ I REMEMBER ~ SUE !
Thanks for sharing ~ comments welcome ~ Love BRIAN
I REMEMBER YOU was a big hit for FRANK IFIELD
when it was released in 1962 ! It topped the UK
Charts for 7 weeks and was great favourite of my
Parents and Grandparents ! I once had a Girl called
SUE who did go to TIMBUKTU with her Parents who
were missionaries and she did have big FEET ! So
I wrote the Poem as a tribute to SUE & FRANK !

They don't eat people in Timbuktu.
'She once do' is this poetic licence or wrong grammar ?
Thanks for your comments LALION ~ we are always open to a little advice on editing ! I appreciate that there are no CANNIBALS in TIMBUKTU in the 21st C ~ and because it is a nostalgic poem and not a nonsense Poem ~ see my explanation ~ I have altered the line ~ OK. Poetic LICENCE is a BLACK ART ~ BUT it does allow English Grammar to be sacrificed for (in this case) Rhyme and Rhythm which are the essence of POETRY (I am a Performance Poet ~ so you will find many glitches in my poems) OK ~ Yours BRIAN (UK)
i loved this one.it is reflective,yet humorous.great one
Thanks SISTER ~ Reflection always stirs my MUSE (b. 1983) but I love 1950's & 60's MUSIC ~ Great Tunes ~ Great Lyrics and Great Performers ~ The Rat Pack ~ Elvis ~ Jim Reeves ~ NKC ~ The Beatles ~ Rolling Stones ~ Dolly Parton etc ~ Excellent Ballads. In my case Reflection generally produces a bit of Humour ~ Things where more Genuinely Funny in the last Century especially the second half (after WW2} Thanks for your comment ~ Yours Brother BRIAN
Brian, You have a good sense of play and humor. I think I'm going to start each day with one of your poems, this way I can start my day with a smile. Write on.
Thanks JANE ~ You are too too kind ~ I do my best to "Post a Poem a Day" and to make them different I try to post about 1:30 am MPS time which Is about 7:30 am UK time ~ Then i have to go to WORK (Monday to Friday) but I do have access to MPS at Work ~ in breaks ~ OK. Pleased you enjoyed today's ODE ~ YOURS BRIAN
A fine write and clip Brian. I must have started Top of the Pops early then, as I was age 4 when he first sang it! lol
Thanks STEVE ~ It is one of those songs ~ especially the way Frank sings it ~ that will still be played in the 22nd C Love that typ of Song ~ "Of All the Girls i've ever loved before .............." In my case only about a DOZEN in the last 17 years and I hope and pray ANGELA will be the last ! Love to hear your version Steve ~ or then again maybe NOT ! Yours BRIAN Born 1983 but Musical Heart in the 50's & 60's ~ AMEN
BE careful about it being a favourite of your grandparents, I can remember it very well.
Thanks ANDY ~ no offence meant ~ there is a time to be BORN and it does influence tastes in MUSIC etc. For those of us born in the 80's the Music ~ Lyrics and Singers of the 50's & 60's seem like a Golden Age. "I Remember You" was covered by many Artists NKC (slow version) John Denver ~ Glen Campbell etc and some Females & Male Female Duets. I like Franks version best and it was UK No. 1 for seven weeks in 1962 and is still played today ! I love the lines "And when the Angels ask me to recall ~ The Thrill of it all ~ Then i will tell them I remember you-ooh !". Hope you didn't think my Poem did not do justice to A Perfect Song ! Yours BRIAN mea culpa !
No offence taken at all, just a bit of fun, the fifties and sixties had some wonderful music and musicians, as did most other decades pre and post me.
