Birthday Pie
On his day we’ll have pie
A fruity one with cherries
I know that he won’t mind
As cake is so ordinary
There will be no candles
To represent his age
A pie couldn’t handle
So many there ablaze
We can still have ice cream
To go with our ample slice
And we will celebrate
Another year that he’s alive
There will also be gifts
And cards many funny
And games that we’ll play
From spades to gin rummy
And we will all celebrate
The special time we’ve had
And his many days
As our dear old dad

I love this! Especially the second stanza. :-):-) Great flow. Tell him happy birthday from a random person that enjoys your work. I think you should read it to him as part of your/his gift. Your gift can be part of his gift.
Thanks, SLR. I'm glad you enjoyed the poem. My mother used to bake pies for our birthday celebrations, and when we got a little older, we preferred them to cake.
If she makes peach cobbler be sure to save me a slice!!
Sounds like a wonderful day, may there be many more.
Thanks, Goldfinch. Yesterday (June 27) just happened to be my birthday, and we had peach cobbler to celebrate...maybe doughnuts next year!
A fine write wc. You had that pie now?! heehee.
Thanks, orchidee. Yes, I had that pie!
