epitaph

dusk arising

If this person
is to be remembered at all
then let it not be
for the great deeds
they have done
or not done
nor the wealth amassed
and passed along
nor any acts
of charity performed
let us instead remember them
for the obstacles
they overcame
in their years
for their dignity
their joy of being alive
and above all
their laughter.

Lol!!!! I remembered one well. How did you know? You must have been among the crowd. Huh? He was already dead. Boy, that's real magic. Great write. Just in time. I loved it.

Oh I so agree - those traits so expertly outlined here are the real marks of greatness.

Yes, everyday humanity is what makes a person nice or not nice. In my book that's great or lesser. Pleased to see you agree. Thanks again Fay.

So very true, be remembered for the person inside their soul.

          • dusk arising

Yes i agree. Even if they were a great national figure, for that is all they will be to those whom they served, the humanity of the person is the measure. Thanks G.

Would hearing an epitaph like this read aloud encourage you to sing an ode at the graveside?

                  • dusk arising

I tried to bring out what would be in the hearts of those who knew the deceased. Thanks ME
