I would liken you
To a night without stars
Were it not for your eyes.
I would liken you
To a sleep without dreams
Were it not for your songs.

I've always admired the profound simplicity in Langston Hughes' work, and this piece is no exception. The lines "I would liken you to a night without stars were it not for your eyes" are hauntingly beautiful, filled with a sense of melancholy yet adoration. It's amazing how Hughes' words can evoke such strong emotions. He's truly one of the greatest poets of his time.
