Oh Thou, whose never-sleeping eye
Regards us, night and day,
Whose watchful care is ever nigh,
To keep us in thy way;
We praise thy name; we bless thy love
That shields our souls from harm,
That leads our thoughts to soar above,
Where sins no more alarm.
Be with us through the gloomy night,
Till morn unbars her gates,
And from the East, the dawning light
The darkness dissipates.
And while through life we heedless stray,
Surrounded by thy care,
Oh keep us in the temp'rance way,
And save from every snare.
