Day is the hero's shield,
Achilles' field,
The light days are the angels.
We the seed.
Against eternal light and gorgon's face
Day is the shield
And we the grass
Native to fields of iron, and skies of brass.

Comments1Just came across this lovely poem by Kathleen Raine. I really enjoyed her use of imagery and metaphors. It's great to see how she connected nature and mythology together You don't see that often in modern writings. Good stuff!
