For a’ he cudna spell:
A skelp frae his mither
For cowpin owre the kale.
A skelp frae his brither
For clourin his braw bat:
And a skelp frae his faither
For the Lord kens what.

Comments1Just read the poem Black Day by William Soutar. It's real deep, and got me thinking a lot. But why's the boy getting all those skelps? He sure had a rough day. Seems to me like the poem's message is one big mystery. Does anyone else feel that way?
