Oil And Blood

William Butler Yeats

 Next Poem

IN tombs of gold and lapis lazuli
Bodies of holy men and women exude
Miraculous oil, odour of violet.
But under heavy loads of trampled clay
Lie bodies of the vampires full of blood;
Their shrouds are bloody and their lips are wet.

    WOW! COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT THIS GEM. TOOK ME BACK TO MY SCHOOL DAYS WHEN I FIRST READ IT. REALLY PAKCS A PUNCH WITH THE CONTRAST BETWEEN THE PURE AND THE EVI. HASN'T LOST ITS IMPACT ALL DEAS LATER. HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ANYONE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING THAT MAKES YOU THINK. SIMPLE BUT PROFOUND! REALLY SETS THE MOOD!
