Tune: Song 46
('Drop, drop, slow tears')
*******
Peace do you give, you see our heart's true state
Whoever we be, whether small or great
Mourn for a time, confessing of our sin
Then hear His word, forgiveness here within
O melancholy heart, with the world's woes
Commit all to your Lord, He all it knows
Going on daily, some vulnerable
In society, for them to God call
Realising what riches have we here
Pray grace, mercy to poor, needy appear
Thankful for what we have here day by day
Growing in Christ's image, going His way
So too that all may know your love and care
Help us, Lord, evangelise and you share
O send your beams of light, each needy soul
Bring them to salvation and make them whole
And that their needs, their fare, their daily bread
Be given them, and they by you be led

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 10.10. metre. I have I have not over-spiritualised this. In a way, in Old Testament days, the people's needs were met by manna/bread literally falling from heaven. Yet the New Testament says to help where we can, with God's help. It's realistic, as it does not say to give what we have not got!

Sadly, a close relative is homeless. I see him in town sometimes. I have put a picture of town and canal, as the homeless are among the needy. Though to be wise in whether we give them actual money or not.
And long may that light play upon you.
Tough indeed when a relative is needy. There are more than monetary ways to help. Being poor and needy tears at one's dignity.
Thanks dusk.
So many are the needy today dear Orchi - a lovely and caring prayer which readers will appreciate is written from your warm heart.
Thanks Fay. I admit I sometimes stop for a brief word with some of them. I might seem to care more about their dog, if they have one, usually a Staffie, but hopefully care about the person too!
Thanks UNCLE STEVE: Angela here. Your lovely Hymn reminded me that sometimes all we can give is a KISS & a CUDDLE and a cup of cold water in the NAME of JESUS. When Im in the UK I do buy the BIG ISSUE and if someone is BUSKING I always give them something. If someone is just sitting there looking helpless & stoned I pass them by. They could be FRUIT PICKING! I support the YMCA, Night Shelters & Street Pastors & the SOS Bus etc. Thanks for caring love ANGELA XXXX There are Street Beggars in Auckland but mostly People we would regard as Unemployable (for a plethora of factors) in the UK. NZ is a Welfare State and they do care for the Elderly & Disabled & Mentally ill etc. I have never seen a MAORI begging! Fortunately in the N Island it does not get too cold in the Winter for "Rough Sleepers".
Thanks Angela, from very old Uncle Steve here - millions of years old! heehee.
The needy in our streets today are getting more numerous. One came into our Church one Thursday morning while I was there and I had a very good conversation with him for about half an hour and he seemed to appreciate that a great deal, it didn’t even cost me a cup of coffee as he had bought that when he first came in. If we had known we would not have charged him anyway.
Thanks Gold. It's true about numbers. Well, they have to sweep up the 'rubbish' they say, for special occasions. Tally ho, how spiffing, can't have them making the place look untidy. Or they 'move them on'.
Although we can't help all the needy. We can do our part. Great write!
Thanks Heart.
I'm needy - got any sherry - do you remember that Roman lass came over with Hadrian - Bulbous Boobus - she worked on the wall for a while. She liked Sherry.
I'll help meet that need of yours M. I'll bring the sherry - and the water. Arrggh!
Bulbous... sounds bit like Bilbo Baggins!
A noble calling we have in raising our concerns (and taking concrete actions) for the poor and needy among us including those living in high dollar, gated communities driving Bentleys and Benzes. And you do exactly that in this poem; well done Orchidee.
Thanks Gary. Though I admit I was thinking more of beggars, homeless, etc here. I can see how the rich have their needs too
