AWAKENING.

Fay Slimm.

AWAKENING .

From the deepest corners of darkest black midnight
the King moves as he hears a call.

Rousing from sleep he stretches extendindg fingers
before yawning then slowly falls
out of his eastern sky- bed and paints gaudy streaks
of stain on dawn's cheeks steadily
mixing more red into her flawless complexion then
smiles at unwary clouds heading
upward climbing higher to avoid summer's hot kiss
by trying to avoid confrontation.

Pretentiousness seen and met with scorn air meant
to be scorched soon melts away.

Old Sol's first intention to dominate moon's vacated
space is followed with zeal,
and vault will be heat-filled today, come light all life
will shrink and as humans feel
bulky hugs from radiation breath's resistance distills
into etherized fetters as noon appears.

Sun-dancing glitter on diamond-sharp sea-face will
defy alteration by insisting on searing.

Glare controls beach with vengeance, yet unwisely
emboldens those who decry blisters
by exposing each unprotected winter-white limb to
prostration's need to be tan-kissed
by a hot Monarch's savagery who fiercely protects
his time and knows fully that all
in his grip today will get expert heat-treatment with
silent scorch until skin can take no more.

Note the power of an awakening Phoebus who daily
makes solar-roast his burning aim. .

  • Comment from author about the poem: Each year there are more cases of bad sunburn on Cornish beaches - although this is a fun-warning to guard against over-exposure I really hope all readers will know how serious these kind of burns can be.

Nowadays I keep in the shade and wonder about those who strip off at the first opportunity and worship the sun - great write Fay.

  • BRIAN & ANGELA

HELLO FAY: Its 7am here in AUCKLAND (NZ) and I just getting ready for work. I have my first Physio Clinic at 10am (NZ Time). Your lovely Cornish Poem & Picture about Brother Sun made me smile. Its the middle of Winter here (10C = 50F) and showery but we do get some lovely Sunrises & Sunsets (due to the Clouds & Mountains). The temperature will rise to 14C = 57F this afternoon and we will get some SUN but no SUNBURN. Because Auckland is sub-tropical we dont get snow or frost in Winter in the North of N Island. It gets colder as you go SOUTH : CRAZY! BRIAN tells me youve been having a real Indian Summer up to 35C (95F) some days and up to 45C (113F) in Spain : God Forbid! Love your warnings about SUNBURN. Patients with REAL BURNS need a lot if PHYSIO but severe Sunburn can also damage skin and restrict movement. My Beloved BRIAN will be here on MONDAY MORNING (NZ TIME) I still cant believe it. Please pray for a safe JOURNEY : Love & Blessings ANGELA XXXX
