What an Amazing Hour.

Goldfinch60

What an amazing hour!

Sitting in the coffee bar,

Our normal haunt.

Drinking our coffee

I looked around,

Nearly every table was occupied,

All were talking to each other,

Some quite animatedly,

Others quite quietly,

But all were engaged

With each other.

There was the lone man,

The lone man in the corner,

But he was reading his paper.

I couldn’t believe it though,

I looked, and looked again,

As the astonishing thing was

There was nobody, NOBODY!

Using their mobile ‘phones.

What an amazing hour!

Phew, a miracle then! A fine write Gold.
if I try people-watching too long I get scowls, then look away, and give up!
Watch out, as a few nasty ones will say 'What, or who, ya looking at?'

You have to be careful. I don't stare at them but just glance at them.

I have to keep a hospital appointment this morning and i become a people watcher too. Though my phone doesn't work in the hospital I'm amazed at the amount of people glued to theirs. They must be playing games I think. I usually buy a paper!

It can be quite fun and also very illuminating at times. When my wife was attending hospital very regularly I used to take a book or do crosswords.

I (almost) don't believe you - the worlds gone mad but not so in in your coffee shop it appears.

        • Goldfinch60

This does not happen very often Michael, this hour was the exception that proves the rule.

A telling read Goldi - - an amazing hour indeed when mobiles are not to be seen.......... people watching brings more reality than phones stuck to ears.

And the next hour you saw nearly everyone on their phones - outside the café?

                • Goldfinch60

We had left before that happened.

That coffee shop has a unique quality, music that's awesome to listen to without being glued to your phone. This is amazing! Great write my friend. I invite you to read my come back poem, My Heart Bleeds, Venezuela.
