Committed Comforters

orchidee

Tune: Taize Chant

('O Lord, hear my prayer')

********

O Lord, hear my prayer

I know you are there

When I call, answer me

You meet all my need

Your sheep do you feed

Come and listen, me see

Grant strength for each day

And show us your way

You see hearts, every part

Inspire our minds true

To contemplate you

We not from your paths start

In meditation

Our soul's elation

For we find you are there

Your Spirit, He dwells

Each humble soul tells

That we Christ's image bear

And at end of day

In closing, we pray

Guard us whole (wholly), comfort too

Forgive all our sin

Make us clean within

With your blessings endue

Awaking to light

Lord, dawn on our sight

That we on you focus

To live live pleasing

To you in each thing

By your grace prosper us

Evangelising

Your gospel to bring

To those who not know you

Your life, salvation

The proclamation

And your forgiveness too

Comforting Spirit

The way you have lit

So we be witnesses

Committed to you

Share strength, solace too

So others share in bliss

------

'Comfort' can mean in the sense of 'strengthen'

as well as 'solace'.

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 5.5.6. 5.5.6. metre. I added to this. I was going to end with verse 4 'And at end of day...'. Then added verse 5 'waking up to the next day'. Then added verse 6 'Going out and evangelising'. Then the poem title came to me, and I added verse 7, some more about 'comfort'.

Super write Orchi, and those Taize chants are mesmerising.

Just one minor thing in the second stanza should the "we" in the last line be "we're".

Thanks Gold. I think it could be 'We'll' ('We shall' or 'We will'). And 'start' is in the sense of 'not departing from'.

      I've got a committed comforter - it's called a thumb.

Oh lol, thanks Michael. 'Comfort' in a one sense can mean a kick up to the ******. A Psalm says 'Your rod (to prod us on) and staff (to hook us back into line) comfort me', cos we are sheep. Baaaa!

Funny, funny, funny the two of you..............

I liked your "definition" at the end - it's so true that when we're down - if we live through it - we come out stronger don't we.........

            Thanks Lorna.

Maybe I'm wrong...... maybe we're not "stronger" ......... just numb from the experiences........ ha!

Thanks STEVE ~ Love it when you think outside the A & M BOX ! Love TAIZE it always lifts me into the SPIRITUAL DIMENSION ~ we do have them in Essex in various Christian Denominations it is a very ECUMENICAL form of WORSHIP. Often we incorporate verses in other LANGUAGES ~ European ~ Eastern ~ Asian & African. Love the POEM ~ like the TAIZE it was endless but never monotonous

              O LORD hear my Prayer
              I know you are there .......... !

Great opening ~ Thanks for caring ~ Heavenly Blessings BRIAN ๐Ÿ˜Ž & ANGELA ๐Ÿงก

Thanks Brian. More A than M, of A& M? heehee. I suppose I grew up with more of the A (Ancient) due to my exceeding age!
