Tune: Woodlands

('Tell out my soul')

*******

On river walk, God's beauties here displayed

For He it all created and outlayed

Your birds, you swans, and geese here take your ease

You pigeons, ducks, take comfort as you please

And trees in shades of autumn colours view

Brown, red, and orange, and some stay green too

All here at peace, nothing disturb you calm

God your Creator shall keep you from harm

You rivers flow, with shining sheen of sun

Or sprinkled with clear raindrops, every one

We cannot of our human selves create

What you have made Lord, each thing it is great

Whether blue sky or clouds a-floating by

In all seasons of life your presence nigh

Help us to sense your love, your Spirit true

Unite all things that they glorify you

River of life, we drink from such a source

It endless flows, perpetual is its course

Here next to nature stop a while we may

Marvellous each your wonders we do say

And woodlands with variety of trees

All hues of green each leaf unique one sees

Nature reserves where squirrels there do play

Help us to protect and conserve each day

In wisdom Lord, you have cure made each thing

Each creature unto you may glory bring

Environmentalists save planet, yet

Better is to come, help us not forget

For one day new heavens and earth shall be

They shall remain, abide, permanently

And you God, with your people, we shall tell

Eternally you with us come to dwell

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 10.10.10.10. I got the word 'woodlands' into this too - the hymn tune name. Maybe the composer named this tune during a woodland walk?

Will you be singing this on the battlefield?

        • orchidee

Yes - they will all run away - the enemy. Can't stand my singing. Who can?! They should have called me in before the battle started. Would have saved them fighting.

Yes Gold. Well, come to think of it, some hymns do mention actual animals, or they may say 'creation' as a general term. And now a hymn-ode to me guinea pigs.
I'm sure they listen when I sing to them:
            'Joy to the world
            The guinea-pigs have come
            Let earth receive her guinea-pigs
Let every guinea-pig prepare a song
            To their Creator praise'.
Erm, is that in the Methodist hymn-book? lol.
