COASTAL EROSION ~ A 7 7 Blank Verse Sonnet

BRIAN & ANGELA

COASTAL EROSION @ HEMSBY NORFOLK (UK) S E COAST

COASTAL EROSION ~ is a UK Problem

Only part of our Coast has defences

A fair percentage of the Coast is just .....

SAND ! We constantly build Houses too near to .....

The Coast ~ BUT with the Sea Level rising

An outcome of Global Warming ~ The Sea

LEVELS erode the Sand ~ causing collapse !

EROSION is slow but sure ~ and building

Robust Defenses is too expensive !

Once Sand Erosion starts ~ UNSTOPABLE

Soon Roads & Houses  ~ Fall into the SEA !

I talked to People who had lost everything

One of lifes paradoxes ~ Love to Live

Near the SEA ~ BUT ~ we never count the RISKS !

Thanks for reading ~ comments welcome ~ Love BRIAN 🧡🧡🧡🧡

The problem arises in the UK because we have a very

convoluted Coast and we are only as wide as Kentucky

(USA) in our widest part so a lot of people life near the

Sea !  The Land to Sea Coast ratio is about 12 : 1  The

USA has a much bigger Land Mass and her ratio is ten

times bigger @ about 140 : 1 Land to Sea Coast ratio.

Other countries like New Zealand have a ratio closer

to the UK.  The avaerage temperature of Planet Earth

has risen by one degree Celcius (15 to 16 C) due to

a CO2 increase from 250 ppm to over 400 ppm due to

Human (not natural) causes !  This has caused the Ice

Caps to melt and also the seas to expand due to a rise

in temperature. Also the warmer the Sea the more

intense are Hurricanes etc. If we dont reduce global

CO2 emission Planet Earth will be unable to sustain

a Human Population of over 15 billion by 2100 and

there will be CHAOS. There is nowhere else in the

Solar System (or the Milky Way) to go ~ DOOM !

One hell of a problem - although not unique to the UK we are certainly one of the mast affected. Well described in your write this morning.it is

Thanks UNCLE MIKE ~ These are not "Holiday Homes" the occupants are often retirees who moved to enjoy the Coast ~ not anticipating the rate of Coastal Erosion. I have added a note showing that our Land to Coast ratio is low at 12 : 1 whereas the USA is 140 : 1. We don't expect our uninsurable House to fall into the sea ~ but increasingly they are. Angela & I haven't bought a House ~ in the UK or NZ yet but when we do it will be at least 10 miles from the COAST ! Thanks for your comment ~ Yours as always BRIAN.

Love this ACROSTIC BRIAN : The pictures are stunning but very sad. It made me cry to think they were once somebodies beautiful houses and now completely destroyed by the SEA they once so loved and wanted to be near. New Zealand is very similar to the UK with a large Coast and similar land area to the UK. Perhaps you could check on how big a problem 'Coastal Erosion' is when you come @ Easter! You always are an Environmental Evangelist! Love you lots ANGEL 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡

THANKS ANGEL ~ Yes it is very sad to lose ones lovely home in this way. I cried when I walked along the shore and saw the dereliction ! I also spoke to some folk still in their houses and refusing to move ! New Zealand is similar and when I visit @ Easter 2019 I hope to visit some sites and get a grant towards my fare ! The tides around NZ are higher and the winds stronger. Global Warming has a lot to answer for Mexico Beach (near Tallahassee Florida) has been destroyed by a Hurricane. Thanks for comment ~ All my LOVE as always and in all ways ! BIG BEAR BRIAN 😎🧡😎🧡

Argghh! Another reminder of building our lives on the sand? The houses look the same (built on rock or sand) until the 'storm' comes!

THANKS UNCLE STEVE ! I live 15 miles from the S. E. Coast but its close enough to SWIM ~ SAIL & SUNBATHE ! Angela wants to live \"In the Sea\" (In a Yellar Submarine ?) but I think the photos have made her rethink ! Being a WISEMAN from the EAST (MELCHIOR ~ one of the Three !) I will build my House in 2019 on SOLID ROCK and not SAND ! Thanks for your timely comment ~ Yours BRIAN

Hi Mel - Melchior. lol. Ahh, you building two houses? You said that twice, - I said, you said that twice! Build both on the rock.

Eye opening write! Here in america we have had more "500 year" storms recently than I care to count! Thanks for sharing!--Christina

WELL CHRIS ~ Nature is in a very delicate equilibrium so we mess with Her at our peril ! We seem to be horrified at the effect of Global Warming ~ but ANTHROPOGENIC (Man made) production of CO2 is still increasing and Trump wants to use more COAL (for the Kentucky vote) which also produces acid gasses (like SO2) when burnt ! Modern Man needs a lot of ENERGY to exist and that will be his demise ! Collaboration Poem on SALT tomorrow please check ~ OK Abrazos y Besos ~ Tu Hermano en El Senor Christo ~ BRIAN 🧡🧡

Some people just do not seem to be aware of the dangers of building too near the sea. I will not have that problem for a very long time living in the Midlands as we do.
