Wondrous Art.

Goldfinch60

There it was again!

That painting!

That painting that I have stood

In front of, for so long.

Each time I see it

I see more.

The detail is awe inspiring,

There is always more to see.

But like all the pictures,

All the pictures in the gallery,

I feel humbled.

Humbled and privileged

That I am seeing them for real.

Not photographs,

Not prints,

But the real thing.

The glory of art can do this to me

Almost as much as the glory of music,

Each brings so much to me,

So much emotion,

So much wonder,

So much love

At such glorious works.

Yes I am so privileged,

So privileged to see and hear,

To see and hear these works,

These wondrous works of Art.

  • Comment from author about the poem: The Artwork that I have put up is called "The Return of the Dove to the Ark" by John Everett Millais in the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, UK. The art work that I am talking about is "A converted British Family sheltering a Christian Missionary from the Persecution of the Druids" by William Holman Hunt which hangs nest to this pierce which I have put on this site previously". As I was looking at the painting I struck up a conversation with a man who I believe was from Holland by his accent and we were talking about art in general. He said he felt I was so privileged to be able to come to the Ashmolean so regularly he reckoned it to be one of the best Art Gallery's in the world. I too feel privileged to be able to go there. The music is Cecilia Bartioli Singing Exsultate Jubilate by Mozart, I saw a comment about this recording which said "Playing this rendition through loud speakers causes angels to frolic in your backyard."

A long time since I graced the hallowed Ashmolean - a superb collection. Actually I attended Ashmole School in Southgate and did a course of studies at Pembroke College - brings back memories.

There is some wonderful art there Michael, my son asked me what I wanted for my birthday a few weeks ago, I asked him to buy me the Ashmolean Museum - I didn't get it but he did get me Membership for a year.

        Some pass by,
        aware of the building,
        some love the frames,
        the exquisite gilding.
        but different for Goldfinch,
as each year he grows older,
        for the beauty is within,
        the eye of the beholder.

          What wonderful words da,
          I am so truly moved
          beauty is there for all
          as your words here proved.

I enjoy art. I guess my favorite paintings are those by the impressionists.

            • Goldfinch60

I too enjoy all types of art, but my favourite artists are the Pre-Raphaelites.
