INACTIVE, EXERCISE.

INACTIVE, EXERCISE.

Inactive

calm, impassive

reposing, relaxing, dreaming

quietude, tranquillity, fatigue, exhaustion

pounding, aching, sweating

weary, drained

exercise.

Okay I know it’s not to everyone’s taste – may be just a string of words  – but they are not that easy to put together and require a lot of discipline. These various classical forms are great training for understanding composition and metre which will put any poet in good stead for writing more free flowing work – a bit like learning to draw before learning to paint.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Diamante A Diamante is a seven-lined contrast poem set up in a diamond shape. The first line begins with a noun/subject, and second line contains two adjectives that describe the beginning noun. The third line contains three words ending in -ing relating to the noun/subject. The forth line contains two words that describe the noun/subject and two that describe the closing synonym/antonym. If using an antonym for the ending, this is where the shift should occur. In the fifth line are three more -ing words describing the ending antonym/synonym, and the sixth are two more adjectives describing the ending antonym/synonym. The last line ends with the first noun's antonym or synonym.

Phew! What with 'ing's' and 'Antonys' (what about Antony?) I'm in a twirl.
The explanation helps us to see how involved this poem is. I doubt I could do a hymn-poem like this!
A great write Michael. I'm off to find Antony Berles or Berling now.

Ohh double-barelled surname people too, that I've not heard of either! True - A nephew of mine married his fiancee with a triple-barrelled surname of H.R.H. Even her first name is double-barelled too. Who are these people? Are they better than us, who are merely 'common'?!

        • Michael Edwards

My wife has a double barelled first name AND a double barelled surname - don't come across that often. And the spellings and pronunciation of both are quite baffling to the English tongue.

          Clever write Michael.

I absolutely love this minimalist artwork.

Thanks Andy - all these drawings are taken from my \'pattern\' book where I have developed the designs. Once I have a \'design\' that I like then I do careful drawing from them taking care to make sure all the lines are clean and crisp. These drawings are then suitable for either framing as they are or for cards.

When I started doing the gnome cartoons a few years back they took on a life of their own. There were quite a few of them and gave me many a giggle as I thought up their escapades. I am afraid I have many pet names for my friends which I dare not share with them. Also TV presenters - take TV weather presenters example: Carol Tightfit and Lucy Leanbackwards (if you know who who I'm referring to you'll know why.

Now as for your Daimante - well 9 out of 10 - would be 10 out of ten but I don't like the curly things lol.

              Sleep tight Angela.
