CHRISTMAS 1914

snow in the Trenches ~ Singing

SILENT NIGHT ~ STILLE NACHT !

Thanks for listening ~ comments welcome ~ BRIAN 🧡🧡🧡

CHRISTMAS (and THANKGIVING) should be a time

of Peace & Goodwill to ALL ~ EVERYWHERE ! In 1914

the First World War was just beginning and the UK &

German faced each other in the Trenches in the Snow !

The Germans began to sing STILLE NACHT and the British

harmonised with SILENT NIGHT ~ same tune similar words.

They climbed out of the Trenches met in No Mans Land

shared stories ~ photographs ~ cigarettes and played

Round one of the 1914 World Cup. The OFFICERS did not

like fraternisation and ordered them back into the Trenches

to KILL EACH OTHER. One English Soldier said "The scales of

War were lifted from my  eyes and I realised that the Germans

I played Footy with were just like me ~ with Homes & Wives &

Children and I lost all incentive to kill them". AMEN !

Please continue to PRAY for the Citizens of PARADISE CA

They had prepared for THANKSGIVING and where preparing

for CHRISTMAS ~ When suddenly there whole Town was

burnt to the ground and many of their Neighbours & Friends

perished in the Flames. Being CALIFORNIA people from

the neighbouring Towns have provided Food ~ Shelter ~

Clothes ~ Schooling and Vehicles. PARADISE LOST will be

PARADISE REGAINED but it will take years to rebuild.

Please put California at the TOP of your PRAYER LIST ~ AMEN

Love to ALL ~ BRIAN & ANGELA🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡

Great little gems - probably the first I like best but all so worthy.

Thanks UNCLE MIKE ~ Pleased you chose Numero Uno it was the first I wrote & illustrated. BUT it escalated (2 3 4) and the version of ~ In the Bleak Mid-Winter ~ resulted in Numero Cinque. Haiku & Senryu are a challenge but Pressure produces DIAMONDS ! Yours as always BRIAN

Now - was it snowy in Bethlehem that time of year, or could it have been? Let's say it was Dec 25th there.
Erm, not to disbelieve, but how was Jesus born 4BC? It's us mucking about with the calendars!

      • BRIAN & ANGELA

THANKS UNCLE STEVE ~ Angela & I are EVANGELICALS and accept the BIBLE as the WORD of GOD without error or contradiction. Therefore we accept the Incarnation as a Virgin Birth in Bethlehem at the turn of the Calendar BC to AD. 25th of DECEMBER was chosen ~ by the Church ~ as the date because it was a Roman Holiday ! The SNOW (in the Carol) is poetic license ! You know better than I do that HYMNOLOGY is NOT THEOLOGY ! Angela & I are Scientists NOT theologians so our Christianity is largely based on Faith & Experience rather than Scholarship ! Nevertheless thanks for your comments ~ they made us THINK ! Blessings & Love BRIAN & ANGELA 🧡🧡🧡🧡

Ahh, maybe not in the bleak mid-winter then? Was it Summer-time?!

          • BRIAN & ANGELA

HI UNCLE STEVE : The exact DATE of the INCARNATION is immaterial : The important thing is HE CAME : Love in the Spirit : ANGELA 🧡🧡🧡🧡

I will celebrate Christmas then on October 7th, or June 22nd, or February 9th - or whenever!

Thanks for adding California to your prayer list! Its death toll is worse than our hurricanes! Loved your Senryus. happy holidays!

              • BRIAN & ANGELA

GRACIAS CHRIS ~ Those of us who have visited PARADISE are deeply shocked For a whole town to be incinerated in a State like California (richest State in the USA) is unbelievable. The perfect site & name make it even more TRAGIC. Some are saying the TOWN may never ever be rebuilt. With it being CALIFORNIA everyone made homeless & destitute are being helped by their neighbours (thats the Californian way) ~ but the SHOCK is heartbreaking. There are still over 100 persons unaccounted for. Pleased you liked the Poems. That version of IN THE BLEAK MID-WINTER ~ with the WW1 photos ~ is so so sad. Any CS poems in the pipeline ? Abrazos y Besos BRIAN y ANGELA 🧡🧡🧡🧡

Very good shorties the first one is so very true, frosty cobwebs are beautiful to see and the last one is so meaningful.

                  • BRIAN & ANGELA

THANKS UNCLE ANDY ~ Yes ONE & FIVE are my favourites too ! Frost (like snow) transforms the Landscape ~ Snow in total and Frost in the minutiae. In view of 1918 ~ 2018 I was blown away by the WW1 tribute on ~ In the Bleak Mid-Winter ~ AMEN ~ Love & Blessings to you both BRIAN & ANGELA 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
