Proclamations To Paralytic - Mark's Gospel (3b)

Tune: Nun Danket

('Now thank we all our God')

Mark 2 v.1-12

********

A man was borne of four

They could not get near the door

Of house where Jesus be

They lowered man through roof, see

When Jesus saw their faith

To the man then He saith

"Son, your sins forgiven

Be", gracious words said then

Some reasoned in their heart

"How can one take on such part?

To forgive sins, only

Can God do, and solely He"

Yet Jesus then did say

"Why reason you this way

Which is easier to say

Unto the man this day?"

"Your sins forgiven be"

Or, "Rise up, take bed, walk, see"

But so that they might know

Jesus did then to them show

That He the Son of Man

Has power, and He can

Forgive sins, and too said

"Arise man from your bed"

And straightway he arose

His healings he to all shows

Physical, spiritual

For body, spirit, and soul

Walked off, his bed carried

Crowd said, "We never did

See things such on this wise

That here now view our eyes"

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 6.7.6.7. 6.6.6.6. I am following selections from Mark's Gospel in this series - not every single verse. This is an extra one I added to fill a gap.

How do you find the speech marks (".....") in the poem? I tend to leave them out, and start speech with capital letters. The speech marks can be a bit distracting, I find, but may be helpful to others.
Also, sometimes it's not the verbatim words that people said. I'm not aiming to put words in people's mouths that they didn't actually say!

Miss Berles has no objections and nor do I - in fact we both like them

tis hard to know whether this was indeed a miracle or whether the guy had just been awarded his benefits and thought no one was looking and needed a break from laying down... or maybe.. maybe he swooned once too often and assumptions were made .....

Ahh I see N. Well, hey, not every church service (or house, if a 'house church') will have some guys breaking up the roof to get someone in. There were so many people, that was all they could think of doing I suppose. Did they pay for repairs to the roof?
Erm, yes, maybe a severe swoon made him paralytic, though I'd like to believe this is a miracle.

Thanks M. Do we put things like '!' or '?' actually within the speech marks? Is that correct? I mean, people don't actually SAY '!' or '?'
What I don't like is one continuous sentence that goes on and on with no capitals, and all the words seem to run in together and...…. (bit like this sentence).
