Cantate Cavalcade

Tune: Llanfair

('Hail the day that sees in Him rise')

Psalm 98 [Cantate Domino]

*********

Sing to the LORD a new song - Alleluia!

Praise Him all day, all night long - Alleluia

For He has marvellous things - Alleluia

Done, and all unto Him sings - Alleluia

His right hand, His holy arm - Alleluia

Keeps His people free from harm - Alleluia

He has gained the victory - Alleluia

Let all nations here now see - Alleluia

He made known His salvation - Alleluia

Let us praise, joy, elation - Alleluia

His righteousness He has shown - Alleluia

Unto all it be made known - Alleluia

He has His truth remembered - Alleluia

And has His mercy conferred - Alleluia

To His people Israel - Alleluia

Salvation to all earth tell - Alleluia

Make to the LORD noise joyful - Alleluia

All the earth, and on Him call - Alleluia

Make loud noise, rejoice, sing praise - Alleluia

Unto Him through endless days - Alleluia

Sing to the LORD with the harp - Alleluia

Make sweet melody, not sharp - Alleluia

Bring words of psalms to worship - Alleluia

Him with humble voice and lip - Alleluia

Sound loud trumpets and cornet - Alleluia

Let His goodness none forget - Alleluia

Make joyful noise, He the King - Alleluia

And Lord of Lords, to Him sing - Alleluia

Creation join in, sea roar - Alleluia

And all there for evermore - Alleluia

The whole world and all therein - Alleluia

Fresh praises do e'er begin - Alleluia

Let the rivers, floods, their hands - Alleluia

Clap and celebrate, all lands - Alleluia

Let the hills together be - Alleluia

With mountains exultant, free - Alleluia

Come before the LORD, for He - Alleluia

Comes to judge earth righteously - Alleluia

All by Him shall be judged fair - Alleluia

All shall in equity share - Alleluia!

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 7.7.7.7. with Alleluias. There is a revised, more modern version of this, but I don't know it myself.

This need not be too formal, as some cavalcades may be.

  • Goldfinch60

alleluia indeed especially the last line.

Thanks Gold. Maybe 'equity' is mainly thought of in money matters these days. I don't know the modern version of this. Hope it does not 'murder the original hymn' - horrid expression, used by some to describe modern changes for the worse. You can sometimes hear Psalms being murdered - only Choir knows the tune, and they're not telling the rest of us. Doh! Is it a fiendish plot to confuse us?

      • Goldfinch60

Choirs only sing the Psalms in High Anglican and Roman Catholic Churches, in the Methodist Church we do not 'Murder' the Psalms we just say them.

        Orchi,

Love the title! It reminds me of the ceremonial processions that took place in my Italian hometown where I was born! As a child, I was in awe to see and sometimes participate (along with my great grandmother) in those processions! Many alleluias were sung along the way!
Thank you for sharing! It brought back great childhood memories!

Thanks Laura. The title came to me at the end of the poem - as often happens.

            Awesome!
            Have a great day!

Hi Gold. I've come across sung Psalms in some low or middle Anglican churches. Not that they get far though, as I explained. Some have changed to saying them, which is better. Otherwise it can sound like dirges.

          • Neville

that is one hell of a lot of Alleluia's, innit.... N

            • orchidee

Thanks Neville. Yep, one after every line. I've run out of Alleluias now. Have to use 'Hallelujah' instead, or even 'Alleluya'. Note the spelling there!

              • Neville

                Yes, noted.... not very subtle

How many syllables? Does Miss Berles know?

                • orchidee

Thanks Michael. Yes, she said it'll cost me. Ten bob for every Alleluia - that's 3 syllables each time. I been using them like there's no tomorrow!

And you've used up tomorrows ration.

Hi Neville. I can have the more obscure 'Halleluya' even. I'm being fancy now.....
