('Oft in danger, oft in woe')

Mark 9 v.35-41 parts

********

If any desire be first

If that their desire, their thirst

The same needs be last of all

If following their Lord's call

And servant of all shall be

Such as desire greatness, see

Whosoe'er receives a child

Receives Jesus, loving, mild

And they too receive the Lord

God the Father, they assured

And none who do miracles

In Christ's name, they have no falls

For such are for Christ, and they

Seek His will, it to obey

Whoever the smallest deed

Does in His name, here take heed

For such shall not lose reward

In the service of their Lord

His true servants they shall be

Follow His humility

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 7.7.7.7. metre. We're not asked to be slaves. To be servants is enough. Though some Bible versions may use 'slaves' instead of 'servants'.

Erm, I didn't get the hang of this at first. I kept putting myself last in a bus queue. By the time I was about to get on the bus, it was full up, and drove off. Doh! heehee.

Great work Orchi - sorry about the bus.

Thanks Michael. We gotta sing 'with vigour' as the clip says. Who is Vi Gorr? You know her?

I've heard about her - I believe she was inspired by Arsin Gear.

Very uplifting UNCLE STEVE ~ Love the Hymn ~ 1808 ~ Olden Goldy ! In MARK Christ is presented as The Servant ~ which is why there is no Genealogy. It was written for the Romans who knew all about Servants (& Slaves !). All Christians are called on to be Servants of God ~ for the furtherance of the Gospel & The Kingdom of GOD ~ AMEN
Blessings & Love in the Spirit !
