Smoke Filled Days.

Goldfinch60

Well that took me back,

Back many years of my life.

Three guys came into the coffee bar,

Got their coffee,

Went outside

And sat at a table.

As they sat down

Each reached into their pockets

And pulled out some cigarettes,

Once they were lit

They sat around chatting,

And drinking,

And smoking,

And that took me back,

Back to when smoking was the norm.

Walking into a smoke filled pub,

Thinking nothing of it

As I pulled out a fag

To go with my pint.

At work it was often the case

As I walked into an office

I could barely see across the room,

The smoke from cigarettes hid everyone.

Nowadays it is just not done,

But back then it was normal,

And those three guys reminded me,

Of those fun, smoke filled days.

A fine write and clip Gold. I gave up smoking about age 13, with my first and last ciggy!

    • Goldfinch60

Was that the one you got from Walter Raleigh when he got off his boat?

Oh yes it was! Now I'm even older - I'm 21 again?!

A rare sight these days and I wonder after all the publicity why it is that many still do smoke.

        • Goldfinch60

It seems to be the youngsters that smoke. In my younger days smoking was the norm. My local at the time everybody in the public bar smoked except the Landlord and his wife and one lady that used to come in on a Saturday lunchtime and she worked at a tobacco firm. She used to get our cigarettes and baccy for us at cost price - so she never had to buy a drink.

Great observation and always nice to be walked down memory lane

Thank you Andrew, most of our memories are of the good times we had.

Thinking on health matters changes but smoking will always now be discouraged as so many cancers have been found for the ill that it causes - thanks for the posting on what youth even nowadays likes to do just for show dear Goldi - - -

a trip down memory lane indeed... twas a different world wasn't it... even now after so many years of being a non smoker, I sometimes fancy a puff or two...... Nice one sir...

I feel the same, if I had just one smoke I fear that I would start again,

snap... trouble is.. I used to really enjoy it.. crazy as it was .. there are not as many truly physically addictive substances as people often think but nicotine & of course alcohol are right up there near the top.... N

Thanks for sharing UNCLE ANDY ! I heard the 21st C line up of the Platters in Cyprus Gardens : Florida : A very distinctive & Heart warming sound : AMEN.
I have never smoked (due to non-Smoking Parents ?) and ANGELA being a cardio-vascular expert is much too savvy & Health Conscious to smoke or use Drugs ! We both only drink in moderation (Despite her being the RIOJA MERCHANTS Daughter !) and we are never (knowingly) over the limit ! For this reason both Angela & I welcome the increasing Worldwide ban on the use of tobacco in enclosed spaces : OK
Thanks for caring & sharing :
Blessings & love to You BOTH :

The image of my trying the very first cigarette is forever imprinted on my mind, on the schools first outing to the most serene valley of Srinagar, Kashmir.
I also distinctly remember when I went cold turkey, while visiting Paris, France.
And now I cross the street as I smell a cig being lit a mile away.
Smoking - feeling cool, being accepted just some of the things

                    • Goldfinch60

Yes Suresh the smell of smoke nowadays is abhorrent.
