TO THE SANDMAN

Fay Slimm.

To The Sandman

Oh Sleep you old raveller of threads ,
feeder of narcotic nectar - - - - - - baker
of bedtime sedative - - boatman who never
rows me to Morpheus - - a slumber-jack fakir
with no restorative - - - - you pretend lover bent
on desertion - - - a fiend who woos then predates,
the so-called mood soother - that rock-a-bye friend
known as The Sandman - - a false eye-salve agent,
maker of drowse-powder - nightly dope-peddler,
dream-chainer - - - inhuman drug-sprite - pale
ghost of dark's opiate - you pseudo-breathed
jailer of wakeful night-ire - - - - - the knave
who keeps dozers awake - - - the jester
whose counted sheep drives people crazy,
repent I implore - withdraw your meanness,
end my hourly rousing - - employ the brakes,
cease your ghoulish games - - - leave me
to repose - - grant the somnolent state
so I can enjoy weaving sweet dreams.
Insomniac I shall refuse as a name
if Oh Sleep you come back to me.

I felt the full fury of this fitfully infuriating and fickle night wanderer last nocte.. and never not a single z could be found..... this is what I call a fine Frant my friend x

    • Fay Slimm.

Quite a few in a similar state by the looks of these comments - hope tonight that Sandman will hand out more zzzzzzzzz ssss to us poor poets eh Nev ? - - A huge thank you for your generous comment but as for calling my offering a Frant - ha - I haven't a clue what that means.

my pleasure Fran... I guess I meant a poetic Fran rant... or sumfink .. Night night... N

Oh lol, good write Fay. A nap during the day or evening - we may say 'I should like to have the time for it!'. Yet if we do, then we're not always sleepy at bedtime. Those pesky sheep - no end of counting them sometimes!

        • Fay Slimm.

Ha - yes I agree Orchi - sleep can slink away when it's time for bed and those sheep never stand still enough for me to count 'em ........... thank you so much for the visit and comment.

          • orchidee

You counted 'em yet? I made it 3,647 at the last count!

My daytime naps tend to join up - I'm worried in case I don't wake at all - goodness what I'll do then. Thanks for the smile this Monday morn Fay.

            • Fay Slimm.

Naps are O.K. so long they dont encroach on the hours of night Mike - - glad you were awake for this read though my friend and that it gave you a smile.

Most nights my wife does not sleep well, up and down a million times, so I am with you on this one. Very clever how you've covered all the sleep/non-sleep genres. "boatman who never rows me to Morpheus" my favorite. " Oh well". he says dozing off, waiting for his afternoon siesta. - Phil A.

              • Fay Slimm.

Ah - so sorry Phil that there is an insomniac creeping around your house at night - - - but glad you enjoyed this rant of a write.

Excellent timing, i didn't sleep a wink last night.
Oh falling asleep is easy.... but no matter how hard i try to sleep (what a ridiculous statement) it eludes me sometimes. A good book can help but ner ner ner ner all been heard before.
Sandman is a great healer, not available on demand. Why must i rant about sleep. Am i tired or something?

                • Fay Slimm.

We all feel like a good rant against that old slumberland rogue from time to time D.A. - - fingers crossed lets hope he hears poet's pleas from now on - - sincere thanks for the generous comment.

Thanks for sharing FAY : We love every bit of this Presentation : The visual and the quirkiness & shape of the Poem . There are so many similies reating to sleep all of them both amusing & frustrating if it evades one ! We both have important JOBS dealing with People and it can pray on ones mind. We both try to get into bed (11,500 miles apart !) by 11 pm as we both have to rise & shine by 7:30 am (Angela is over 12 hours ahead !) We have both found (independently) that reading The BIBLE (or a Spiitual Book) and praying before hitting the sack is better than a sleeping pill ! Also ANGELA always advises me not to drink (alcohol) in the Evening and not to eat Heavy Food after 7 pm. She has a qualification in Nutrition : but its good advice ! Thanks for sharing and sleep tight !
Blessings & Love through entertaining Lyrics !

Ah - so pleased the fun-rant both interested and amused you both Brian and Angela - - enough deep slumber helps any tomorrow along - hugs and huge thanks for dropping by and airing your views on what makes a good lullaby ......... x from Fay

Wonderful fun write Fay, Morpheus does elude me occasionally but normally I can sleep well but the wife needs me several times during the night so it is not always a good nights sleep.
