SELFHOOD.

Fay Slimm.

Selfhood.

Liberation's trumpet blows loudest calls
to unwind and be bold
as fettered minds will feel no better 'til
thought becomes de-controlled.

Caged and muzzled souls unravel slowly
to freedom, believing
when dumbly adrift that expression wins
if for concord it homes.

So unhand my heart release and disband
bondage of long neglect,
leave hold of erroneous persuasion that
when shackled anguish bates.

Who I am is unique and of late choose
selfhood to celebrate,
this for sanity's sake and not for what
others think is my state.

Thanks Fay for permission - I'll enjoy reading more ..... it takes years sometimes to stop living every one else's ideas of what one should be doing and it is so wonderful when you just let that all go. And of course we have to be ready for the disapproval that follows sometimes....

    • Fay Slimm.

I agree wholeheartedly Lorna - it takes years for many to begin letting go of being what others would like us to be.............. thank you so much for your read and considered comment.

...... just cos i didn't get that laureate job doesn't mean i'm going to shut up!

Ha ha - - scream if your liberated selfhood is inclined that way D.A. - - maybe the right quarters will hear and revoke their recent decision - -- well at least you have the freedom to scream........ thanks ever so for the read and the comment.

I needed this so much for a major fear of mine was faced today, for this exact reason.
Self-righteous was their last word as my "self" would not aline to their "self" even if sharing the same blood. I've come to understand we are way more than that, thank again for how beautifully you worded this, helping to ease my mind!

          Always appreciated

One thing that comes with age is that you have nothing to prove and nothing to lose if you speak your mind. At last I am liberated. Yahoooo!

            • Fay Slimm.

You are right with the age thing which liberates without losing when speaking your mind Mike - - many thank yous for that needed reminder....... so Yahoo from me too - though of course I am ageless.

Thanks for sharing FAY ! SELF WORTH & SELF RESPECT : for who and what we are : are very important @ all stages of our lives ! When we are TEENS we struggle to establish our Unique Identity ! However we become Fetishes of fashion ~ Members of Movements and Slaves of Social Order (Verses 1 & 2). We long to be released from their BONDAGE and freed from their SHACKLES (V 3). This is achieved by SELF-REALISATION (V 4) ! It is never too LATE (or too SOON) to realise and recognise and actualise that :

              *I AM A UNIQUE PERSON* AMEN !
              THANKS FOR BEING UNIQUELY YOU

The “selfhood” caged by addiction Fay is the selfhood surrounded by iron bars. Indeed many crave for liberation yet replace one vice with another. A priest today spoke to the congregation of a woman giving up smoking only to fill the hole with the consumption of junk food - his point - Judas Iscariot was replaced by something better - the Apostle Matthias. For sanity’s sake may selfhood seek Selfhood.

Your life is your own and unique, others try to influence it but for absolute bliss always go your own way.

A fine write indeed, and not only that.. packed with common sense and universal truths..... Neville
