Re-Writing Rhymes.
The owl and the pussy cat went to sea
In a battered green leaky canoe.
They took some putty
and plenty of honey
But could not stop the gap without glue.
The owl looked up to the stars above
And he whined to an un-tuned guitar.
"Stop that loud croaking
and watch your boating"
"This," said Pussy "is going too far."
Pussy looked at the owl and thought
Useless at wooing his awful whistle,
Him I'll not marry
nor will I tarry.
Can't wait to get off this sinking ship.
They rowed away for the rest of the day
But though bailing the gaping hole grew
Until there in the water
they found a short note
Which read "Are you going down too ?"
"Shall we" said Owl "chance it and jump"
Cried the trembling Puss "Oh we will"
So they fell overboard,
and struggled to shore
Only to get the boat owner's huge bill.
They dined on air to pay for the fare
On pleasure cruiser for one more fling.
Pussy said to Owlet
"This time woo better
And for pity's sake don't start to sing !!

what a brilliant take on an old childhood classic and favourite of mine.. you wont believe some of the fond memories you just triggered Fay.. so thanks a million.... Neville
Ha - an attempt quite a while back to re-write some favourites - so glad this one made you smile my friend............
yes it did indeed.... 🙂
Oh lol, good write Fay.
Thanks FAY ~ A great rewrite of the OATPC very amusing ! Nursery Rymes & Hymns & Songs are all prey to a rewrite ~ I never object except for the Scriptures because they are sacred in any Language or Epoch. The BIBLE has been translated into 2000 of the 6000 known languages ~ but that provides ~ through the GIDEONS & the Bible Society etc ~ a Copy for everyone. Weve been in a Local School today with the GIDEONS. Odly enough Our Poem today is about *OLD THINGS* highlighting GENE AUTRY (1950) singing *DEAR HEARTS & GENTLE PEOPLE* and We wouldnt change a word. Thanks for brightening up our MORNING (B) & EVENING (A)
BLESSINGS & Peace & Love

You've absolutely nailed it - I also love playing with old nursery rhymes and have posted quite a few here - so pleased to see you are also doing the same - more please.
Ha ha ha love it. I have done similar things with this lovely poem several times to include friends name and activities.
Great fun to do with a poem and meter almost everyone knows.
Even at this age, I'm a child at heart and will always be. I laughed, I giggled, I smiled all at once with this joviality, so needed, so wanted.
Thnx
Great re-write Fay, I do that occasionally and rewrite famous poems with my own words, it is great fun.
Mary had a little lamb,
She went and called it Fay,
And every where that Mary went.
Fay would play with hay.
