Work Again?

Goldfinch60

I look out the window

Down onto the street

I saw her

Saw this lady walking

Walking to work

Then a car drove by

Somebody else

Off to work

The thought came to me

That I used to do that

Used to get up and go to work

A feeling of nostalgia came over me

Of times when working was my life

Those times of meeting colleagues

We could have a laugh

But the work came first

All helped each other

As problems occurred

Times of camaraderie

And respect for each other.

Now as I think

And watch people go to work

Would I go back to work

The answer came

No I would not

Retirement is treating me well

Being able to do what I want to do

And do it when I want to do it

This freedom is priceless

Thinking of work is nostalgic

Being retired is so much better

Thanks UNCLE ANDY ~ Great Opus & Visdeo for a lovely late Spring Day in SUNNY ESSEX ! Being a BANK HOLIDAY ~ no work for me (BRIAN) today but WORK again tomorrow ! I love my JOB (Head of Apllied Science in a large FE / HE College) and (@ 35) the whole idea of RETIREMENT fills me with HORROR ~ There is so much I want to do ~ which can only be done in the context of Secure Employment in Higher Education ~ OK. Angela feels the same. However she is prepared to take a break to *Raise Our Family* when the time comes. Physiotherapy is a Profession you can resume @ any time ~ AMEN

Count you many Blessings ANDY ~ retirement is one !

Thank you A and B. Yes retirement is a blessing, I worked my forty seven years and one month without ever being unemployed and had a blessed time during those years but retirement is better.

I also look back with much fondness - but I couldn't do my job now. The Law changes and evolves and I'm no longer up to speed. So I'll remain content at home in charge of my life - yes I'm content.

Sadly tha credit crunch scuppered my retirement finances and i have to work for as long as my body will endure. Already my knees and back are complaining and i fear the time to take a long rest from work is close.
I have a different outlook on work though. Since my late twenties i have been self employed and chose my hours. Chose to work my bank holidays and take my days away when all others were at work. Working in peoples homes i befriended many and was delighted to be reaquainted years later when my services were required again.
I shall miss not working in several ways.

Sorry to hear about your retirement finances but I am glad you found a wonderful way to work through your life, mine was the same all in all I was very lucky with my work life and would not have changed it for the world.

We work all our adult life, and when the time comes some of us forget how to play.
              Enjoy your retirement, N

I was at an interview for a job once and I was asked why I wanted the job. I replied "To earn enough money to do the things that I want outside of work".

Seven years retired on June 1st.
