Doves.

Goldfinch60

The food goes out to feed the birds

And down they come to eat their fill

Squawking and fighting as they will

Until the seed does fill their bill

We don’t mind who comes in to eat

As they all have this hungry need

So to our garden they come to feed

And spread and demolish all the seed

But recently things have changed

As to our garden have flown white doves

A bird that many people come to love

For the sign of peace it so does prove

But why are they coming to eat with us

When they should feed at their dovecote home

Although they fly and are free to roam

They should stay away from our wild bird dome

We chase them off when they come down

But off they fly into the air

And fly around ‘til we’re not there

And then come back without a care

To make things worse last night a Church

As the Service was in full swing

Preacher gave us all something

And one was a card with a dove on wing.

Doves are greedy beggars and can be bullies too.... we have a dovecote but no longer any doves.. they just took off one day without so much as a bye or leave....... nicely poemed my friend..... Neville

A good write Gold. The pecking order of doves?

        • Goldfinch60

Thanks Orchi, I'll give them pecking order!

Yes doves can be greedy and keep small birds away - -- I found buying seed with no large corn pieces included did the trick - -now no more biggies to bother the tinies.

If I did that the wood pigeons and collared turtle doves might not come. Also the goldfinches like sunflower hearts - unfortunately so the do white doves, they sit beneath the feeders and waith for the goldfinches to drop some.

They may well be known as doves of peace but they are bullies in our garden.
The Girl form Ipanema is a classic song of the latin jazz style.

Thou their manners don't fit the bill
For they bully tinier ones at will
Snatching from others, fill their bill
Filling up, leaving without a note(will)

              • Goldfinch60

                So true Suresh, thank you.

We are currently infested with jackdaws - not quite so bad but playing havoc with the moss on the roof (like in your earlier poem).

                • Goldfinch60

We have one that visits us fairly regularly. The wonder of jackdaws though is their colour that metallic sheen that have so so beautiful.

                  Very nicely penned!
