Gold : Silver & Bronze : Don*t come forth !
In some Paralympic Classes
There are only THREE contestants
So they ALL receive a MEDAL : AMEN !
REAL LIFE is not like that : only ONE JOB
ONE PROMOTION & ONE FIRST DISCOVERER !
BRIAN & I have both come SECOND in ........
An interview for ONE JOB : we wanted : and
Was given to an Internal Candidate !
Its the same with LOVE ! before BRIAN & I
Met each other : so often a Potential ........
Partner would be snatched away ! C*est la Vie !

When I discussed this poem with BRIAN he asked me to add
an incident which disproves the premise in Stanza 2. Eight
candidates but only ONE JOB. BRIAN was Chair of Governors
at a School interviewing for ONE SCIENCE POST ! The Panel
had narrowed it down to TWO. ANNE who was offering BIOLOGY
& CHEMISTRY and JAMES who was offering PHYSICS & MATHS !
Either would have augmented the Department. BRIAN was the
LINK GOVERNOR in SCIENCE. He knew they were using a STAFF
equivalent of Part-time Staff so He asked the HEADMISTRESS
"Why cant we employ them BOTH ?" Surprisingly the HEAD &
The County Adviser agreed. They were both Probationary Teachers.
BRIAN was relieved because they were potentially excellent Teachers.
The *Icing on the Cake* was that three years later BRIAN was a
Chief Guest at their Wedding and was able to recount the Story of
*TWO for the Price of ONE* at the Wedding Breakfast - AMEN !

Thanks UNCLE MIKE ~ Pleased you enjoyed ANGELAS Poem. I did think of trying to make the Love Story of ANNE & JAMES into a Sonnet but that would have trivialised it ! When Angela shared her Sonnet I thought it would be a perfect codicil to verse 2 ! If we had only made ONE APPOINTMENT they would have gone their separate ways but now they are expecting their first BABY ~ AMEN. What surprized me was that COUNTY were prepared to let us make TWO APPOINTMENTS on the Day. It was their first full-time Teaching Post for both of them !

ANGELA here - Thanks FRIEND - Pleased you enjoyed the Presentation. Both BRIAN and I are priviledged to work in the PUBLIC SECTOR - I in the NHS and BRIAN in Education (FE / HE). The pay is basic but our jobs are secure ! We do have JOB APPRAISALS by our SUPERIORS based on our relationships with our CLIENTS (STUDENTS) and the feedback they get etc. Our Productivity is not quantifiable like working in a Car Factory so we dont get bonuses neither are we threatened with redundancy ! As you say the World of Business & Commerce is much more aggressive than Medicine or Education and both our Jobs are working with People and give us a lot of Job Satisfaction and a lot less stress ! Thanks for your comments - We are both in our thirties - but we should survive the next thirty years and I hope to be a Full-time Mum for a few Years (2022 - 32) ? !

A fine write B&A. I however saw a job vacancy which looked like the work of about 5 people! Some employers might laugh up their sleeve - Heehee. or the more sneaky Teehee! Why pay 5 when we need only pay one?!
Thanks UNCLE STEVE ~ Brian here ~ The *Principle of Multitasking* sure applies in Further / Higher Education ! I was appointed as a Senior Lecturer / Head of Applied Science ~ I am also Chair of the Safety Committee & The Library Committee and on the rota for Evening Security Duty. I addition I am required to be required to be a College Governor on a Local School & Liason Officer for the Open University Tutorial Rooms on a Saturday Morning etc etc ! None of this was mentioned in the JD I applied for and only the OU appointment pays £1000 pa extra ! I am An OU GRADUATE and an OU Enthusiast ! S ome of these Ancilliary Posts help to reduce my Teaching Time to about 15 hours per week ! C'est la Vie. Pleased you enjoyed the Presentation !

THANKS DION ~ We miss MPS when we are away form our Computers and its good to know we are missed ! I (B) was researching Coastal Erosion (South East Coast of England) and Angela was at a Conference on Acupuncture in Wellington New Zealand. In Academic Study it is important to be very focussed and single minded and (as you say) PERSISTANCE IS THE KEY ! However wherever we are on Earth ~ Prayer & Meditation are always very important !
