Kids Eh?

Goldfinch60

The telephone rang,

I answered it.

“Da-ad?” she said

In that pleading way.

OK I thought,

What does she want,

What does she want this time!

“You know I’m moving?”

“Yes” I replied hesitantly,

“Can you help me?”

“It depends what it is” I replied,

But of course I’ll try”

“Well” she said,

“I have been to IKEA,

Been and bought some things

And was wondering,

Wondering if I could put them,

Put them in your garage,

Then collect them when I move?”

“OK” I said, “If they are not too big”

“They are all flat packs

So will fit in” she replied.

She arrives in her overladen car

And into the garage went:

Two wardrobes,

Two cupboards,

And two sets of shelves!

“They will be gone when I move

When I move in three weeks” she said.

Off she went,

And there was me with half her house,

Half her house in my garage.

The telephone rang,

I answered it.

“Da-ad?” she said,

In that pleading way

OK I thought,

What does she want,

What does she want this time!

“Can I send one more item,

One more item to your garage?”

She asked.

“OK I said “just one more”

It arrived by truck,

And now apart from half her house

I now have her shed,

Her shed in my garage.

Kids eh?

But I wouldn’t be without them.

If you had anything about you Andy you would move into the garage and let your daughter have your house!

    Ex animo, Alan

The house is hers and my sons anyway but they need to build my wooden box first - there must be a flatpack for that as well.

You are a wonderful man. I have never met you but still know you.

        Ex animo, Alan

Oh lol, a fine write Gold. Just call me if they are too much for you, and I'll give 'em a song or three. That'll scare anyone off. But it might be too drastic. They may never return. I usually reserve my singing for my worst enemies! heehee.

        • Goldfinch60

Thank you Orchi. You would not be able to scare my eldest Granddaughter she would tell you what to do with your singing in no uncertain terms - then you would be singing "Far, far away".

          • orchidee

Eekk! So I would run far far away, though I try to scare them with my singing!

Ah yes - we had this when the children left home. Plenty of their possessions which they had no room for. They stayed with us for a house move before we said they were going to the skip if not collected, The outcome? We delivered them to their houses - in London, in Leicester and in Rugby. That what Dads are for I guess.

            • Goldfinch60

We have both had this experience then Michael. Wouldn't ant it any other way would we.

nice piece of writing. a shed inside of a garage sounds like a quiet place to write poetry.

                • Goldfinch60

That sounds like a great idea fuch_bu but I would need to build the shed first - any offers?

                  • fuche_bu

If I build the shed, it probably won't stay vertical for very long.

                  • Suresh

Next time I hear that word (imminent) Daaa-aaad), I'll transfer the call to you. Oh! by the way, thanks.

                    • Goldfinch60

I would be pleased to answer it Suresh but I am afraid the 'phone is off the hook at the moment.

                      My pleasure.
