Nearest.
Loving things nearest to hand
I must consider the Dandelion.
Mane of spun gold opens bands
of allure as eye and aroma align.
Fired by sun seduction attracts
passing insects intent on dining.
Bosom exposed lightening action
releases droplets of scent- design.
Seeing the spread feelers fasten
on insect nectar for feeding time.
Such a clever self-spreading ranks
as first class intelligence to admire.
Sensing feast splay an unwrapped
tongue greedily laps at artful invite.
Pollen can sweeten hidden language
because flies ignore dandelion's guile.
Noteworthy successful at spreading
itself this little plant stirs the fancy.
Yet no poet unbent will catch Heaven
giving merely one indifferent glance.

- Comment from author about the poem: April is dandelion month when the blooms show their presence in gardens and hedgerows...... as I stooped to catch life around their petals I saw ordered beauty playing its part in reproduction. Hope you enjoy the few words that came from that awesome experience.

Beautiful Fay
A much hated weed by the lawn-lovers
but such a display to achieve it's potential
I like it when they go to seed but don't tell the neighbors
Ha - - a secret love affair with a beautiful weed -- I would not tell a single soul my friend. A lovely comment and thank you so much Andrew.
A lovely write and pic Fay. I saw an insect thingy - alive, but about half-a-millimetre long!
So pleased you enjoyed the read dear Orchi.
Indeed the dandelion is a beautiful creation though scorned by me and most for its reproductive efficiency mocking our desire for bowling green lawns of unnatural domination.
A wonderful tribute to the positives of this plant/weed/abomination/curse. At a time when most gardners are engaged in a war upon it. Why are we robbed of our elms when it could have been the dandy?
I agree D.A. that our yearly show of dandelions brings Spring with their sunny faces - so pleased you enjoyed the small tribute to a much maligned plant.
these 'piss the beds' are without doubt beautiful to look at... but I prefer to view them in someone else's garden
I guess they are a bit like Marmite.. well depicted here....
Neville
ha ha - well you obviously have no rabbits and you would not like my garden which is alive now with beautiful yellow heads - and bees already at this time of year getting a feed........... so there !! a big thank you though for your read my luverley.............. x
I am one of those who love the humble dandelion - there are banks of them locally and their bright cheerful blooms are a sheer delight. Fine tribute to a great plant.
Thank you dear Mike. - -A smiling thank you for liking the dandelion and all it means to see its beauty each Spring.l
BRIAN HERE ~ Good Evening Fay ~ I love DANDELIONS in all their stages. Elegant BUD - Beautiful Flower perfect structure - Awesome YELLOW HUE - Delicate in Parachute Form - I always blow them to the four winds to generate more & more beautiful FLOWERS ! My Gramps made delicious Dandelion & Burdock from Dandelion roots. As your poem says the Dandelion has its place in the Food Chains & Food Webs. Who are we (mere mortals) to argur with that ! I teach my Nursery Nurses (Environmental Studies) to teach the Children - to respect all Flora & Fauna & Insectivora equally and never to destroy it ! Some of them have never handled a Worm or a Spider and unfortunately they pass their PHOBIAS on to the Kids. If we are wise we wont upset Mother nature (again) by despising one of her most lovely of FLOWERS - the DANDELION - AMEN !
Blessings - Peace & Joy
Love BRIAN & ANGELA 💛💛💛
I second your vote Brian for admiring the Dandelion - - - noting each stage that changes bud to bloom is treasure to behold.. So much to learn as we bend to look. Thank you for your visit and comment.
