Taking in Water
Within a matter of moments
of our being hit
We started taking in water
Like nobodies business
But refused point blank
to go down
Of that I feel certain
the Captain said with a frown
I note a light on the hillside
going round and around
Take charge of these oars son and
for heavens sake hold your head high
There’s a fire on the horizon
where we shall eventually warm and get dry
Then there’s ale and salt brisket
to be had in the tavern
Take heart lad
let’s see what tuppence can buy

A scary adventure at sea which demands another installment methinks - - - - your ability with stories is shown to perfection here with a smatter of archaic language to boot - -'ere's wishin' a safe landing and tavern's hot viands for that Cap'n an' lad thanks to 'ee me 'Earty
he most heartily thanks ye most assuredly and kindly & true .....
Someone having fun there?! lol.
anything's more fun than drowning .... cheers Orchidee

Neville,
Loved reading this finely penned poem. That Captain and lad certainly deserve all the ‘ale and salt brisket‘ that ‘tuppence can buy’...and perhaps more!
Laura🌻
You just made this old fell's day so ya did... we just had a power cut .. it happened an hour or so back, just as I was gonna post a photo for ya... will post very shortly.. 🌻
What year will that be - or approximately? When tuppence was about 50 quid's worth today?
I would be a pirate, but I got this parrot on me shoulder, name of Polly; a relative of Fido's, never lets me have much 'excitement'! lol.
you are not so much a mystery as a menagerie ... N:)
It's a wonder I get round to doing anything, what with tending to guinea pigs, Fido, Polly, and whoever else!
Ale'll give you courage on land and courage at sea
Courage when dry, and courage when drowning
...ask any pirate, me lad!
Aye aye Captain
Cheers, Neville
