TODAY WE TAKE CUTLERY FOR GRANTED ! Usually Stainless Steel (13% Chromium) never rusts. Even in a Motorway Quick Stop Caff we expect a decent set of throwaway K F S (plastic or wood) strong enough to cut the *food*. American Finger Food ~ is not really British ! It was not always thus and the Video explains the Evolution of modern cutlery. We love to visit Stately Homes and see a Dining Room set out in all its Glory. In the College *Training Restaurant* protocol of Glassware - China & Cutlery is always observed. At Home Angela & I dine @ the table - NOT on a tray in front of the TELLY ! Love Angela & Brian ๐งก๐ค๐
WHEN SETTING THE TABLE ~ One learns very soon
The correct alignment of Knife - Fork & Spoon.
A Spoon for the Soup and a Knife for the Fish
And or Meat ~ which is served in a piece on your Dish.
Never put Knife in mouth ~ in London or York
To pick up your Food (not fingers) ~ a FORK !
You need another shaped Spoon for Dessert
And a Cheese Knife & Fork ~ should that be served.
So there you have it ~ Cutlery Array
Our *Old Eating Irons* we use every day !
In CHINA its CHOPSTICKS ~ which aren*t half as nice
Lift you bowl to your mouth & shovel in Rice !
In INDIAN HOMES ~ no one on protocol stands
Just pass the Rice round and scoop up with ones HANDS ~ AMEN !
Thanks for visit comments welcome ~ LOVE ~ Angela & Brian.

In that house that I wrote about yesterday the cutlery was mainly silver and just put in the drawer in the kitchen with the other cutlery.
Angela here - Good Afternoon Uncle Andy. In Middle Class Families like our Parents the Silver is always kept in plus lined Canteen. I the Upper Classes it is kepy in the scullery drawer with the other Eating Irons ! WE have a German Stainless Steel & Gold 10 place Canteen ! I aways like the Cutlery and the Wine Glasses to match and of course Wines to Complement the Cusine. We love to host Dinner Parties up to 10 ! WE cant wait for the Carte Blanche to entertain again !

Ah etiquette - this was a subject when I was at school and I've never forgotten it. How many place their knife and fork correctly when they have finished? Together with handles towards you anf fork prongs facing DOWN!! Waiter serves over right shoulder and removes over left shoulder - never removes until EVERYONE has finished. When setting out cutlery the knife blade should face inward. Never eat with just fork - always use both knife and fork. And all that cutlery you mention - how many know how to arrange them correctly? Not many.
And so it goes on.
BRIAN HERE ~ Thnaks UNCLE MIKE for you very objective reply. Must have been an excellent School if it taught *Etiquette de La Table a Manger* I Teach a lot of Catering Science and sometimes I am *Chef de Range* in the Traing Restaurant we aim to be **** and have a lost of very discerning Clients. Before the Clients arrive one of my Jobs is to inspect each one of the Table Settings (50) to ensure they are up to **** standard. I always set the Dinner table @ Home for 7pm !
Blessings & Peace to You & Yours
Love Brian - Angela & Smokey Cat.
It wasn't a subject as such and there were no exams in the subject but we had several sessions on etiquette which exrended beyond just table manners.
EXCELLENT ~ Uncle Mike I assume it was either a Grammar or a Publirc School. There is very little Etiquette in some of our School today they have no respect for each or the Teacers. I visit Schools to talk about my profession as a PHYSIO. Generally to Year 9 13 / 14 Year Olds. I take a skeleton with me and tell them it was one of my clients ALFIE who stepped out of line ! That breaks the ice but also establishes my Authority and I never have any trouble ! Some of my Colleagues who are Nurse tell me they are in tears giving a prsentation because the Boys are so so disrespectful. Trouble is many Teens are NOT diciplined at HOME. Mi Padre was very strict and sent me to a Girls Catholic School (in Londn) and the NUNS threatened us with Purgatory if we stepped out of Line - BUT - we learned (and practised ) respect & etiquette. All my Year Group - from different Nationalities - have done well - so far !
Love ANGELA !
I'd like to say Public but no, Grammar. Much of etiquette is about respect and sadly that is an endangered discipline.
