Maybe I Am Old.

Goldfinch60

I have never seen myself as old,

But then it came to me,

Maybe I was old.

As I talked to my grandson

I mentioned my father,

His great grandfather.

That really shook me up,

As a such important person in my life

Was never known by my grandson.

That’s when I realised,

Maybe I am old.

Yep, we are very old, us two anyway. We was there in 1066, carved our initials on a tree, and added: 'We woz ere 1066'.
At a church, mainly elderly, some who had a relative from the Boer War were not many generations removed. Someone knew some old Colonel that was in it!

We are all getting that way Orchi but there are very few who can remember walking with dinosaurs as we used to do.

It hits us all from time to time. My youngest grandson celebrates his 9th birthday today and I remember holding him after he was born and walking around with him in my arms. Tempus fugit.

I have six grandchildren ranging from two this year up to thirty one this year. Tempus fugit indeed (is that allowed without an 18 sign?).

I wouldn't say your old Goldfinch but i do know some hills which are younger than you.

We are both a pair of old has-been codgers.

        • Goldfinch60

Being has been old codgers gives us the freedom to do as we like and normally get away with it. I often refer to myself as an old codger.

          Andy.

How very dare you?.... That awful song haunted my youth.... The only musical i can recall tolerating was Oliver. I don't enjoy them by and large..... erm... opera.... similar..... operetta ... well.... i am the very model of a modern major catastrophe.... tarran tarrah...

Actually, our chronological age can differ greatly from our biological one, which can also be scientifically verified by measuring the length of ''Telomere'', a protective cap at the end of our chromosomes, and makes them multiply efficiently over the years.

Beside other numerical biological parameters. That means you have a right to feel young, as long as your biological indications still function youthfully, and still able to defy the chronological age.

Thank you for that Samer, in my mind I still think I am in my thirties until I start to do something physical that I used to be able to do back when I was that age.

When much of what children study as history - to you were current events. You are old.

              • Goldfinch60

Thank you Jerry, I am part of history and history is written by the winners.

Goldie, you are not getting old, you are getting ripe.

                • Goldfinch60

The ripeness of age can bring such pleasures to our lives Fred as we both know.

The beauty in the lesson of life right there! I am not old but I look in my youngest eyes of grandparents she'll never know..

Many we show them the spirit we was once shown, to bring up all love that is known...

                  Thanks for the inspiration 😉
