Into the coffee house he walked,
A man of many years,
Family around him.
Stopped at a table,
Made sure his family were comfortable,
Went off to buy the coffee.
Nothing at all strange about this
But he was dressed so smartly,
Light blue jacket,
Grey trousers,
White shirt
And a pink and grey striped tie.
Such a pleasure to see
A man dressed this way.
It brought me back to my time,
My time many years ago
When I dressed like that,
Dressed like that every day
As I went to work.
Dressed correctly for the occasion,
In a suit, collar and tie,
And of course polished shoes.
It made me think of those passed days
When many dressed so smartly,
Yet it took this one occasion
Seen this day
To take me back
To those wonderful times
When men dressed so smartly.

- Comment from author about the poem: It was just one of those occasions that brought wonderful memories to me. Cecilia Bartoli is possibly my favourite opera singer.

Good write Gold.
Yes - I continued ranting. In that particular church online, a leader wore a hoodie and jeans - and not a young leader.
I'm not against jeans and T-shirts in church. We don't have to wear Sunday best, but it looked scruffy. Part of their overall 'attitude' where they just amble on, same old choruses, etc. What do I care really? I'm not even there now!
Thanks Orchi.
Help - can't see video! lol.
See if this works

Good 'un Andy...But don't you feel free, shuffling around in a loincloth and flip-flops....?
Oh yes those loincloths are so easy to put on and then to just slip into the flip flops is wonderful.
Andy
And so easy to slip out of the loin cloth lol
Yes all my working life I was booted and suited - Iin my late 70's I still take an interest in clothes and make sure I'm dressed (but not formally) in accordance with modern styles. Straight leg trousers, informal shirts, tee shirts in the summer BUT never with graffiti, just got a Moncler jacket - costs an arm and a leg but looks so good, casual shoes (only leather for more formal occasions - light tan is my favourite). I wonder how it is with so many clothes shops on the high street that so many look so scruffy. I actually love shopping for clothes - don't know what this says about me.
Thanks,Michael -always looking for fashion tips - must keep up as I want to know what will turn up in my favorite charity shop next (on trend but just one half step behind). Re t -shirts, you have no desire to be a walking bill board for some multinational? Re Moncler - researched, but disappointed to find these garments unsuited to my Sydney climate...
Thank you Michael, I just where clothes that I am comfortable in, short sleeved shirt, Craghoppers trousers, leather slip on shoes, odd socks, not worn matching socks since leaving work or going to funerals.
Andy
Why the obsession with odd socks? This is definitely a fashion aberration I have yet to catch up with........
If I'm to wear graffiti tee shirts I want advertising fees. Odd socks? No always matching and NEVER white. Light tan maybe if I'm earing light coloured trousers. I'm a tad OCD.
😊 I can relate to that Michael - Andy's yer odd sock man....
sadly, I don't share
your fond memories
of suits: as uniforms, Andy
'I was the guy
loosening his tie
barely a few minutes
into my morning commute...'
(still, a fun read
thanks for sharing
and hope you have
a wonderful weekend
my friend)
Thank you Mek, yes suits were types of uniform, once I out it on in the morning I was in 'work mode' but it soon came off when I got home.
Andy
Oh yes, well remembered. I used to wear a 3 piece suit and regularly complimented on my appearance by superiors (didn't go down well among some of my colleagues) and at one time when I worked for a newspaper, we had to have permission to remove our jacket in warm weather.
Lookig back on great times. I don't have a suit that fits me these says.
Yes da, such different times.

Etiquette is shunned in today’s world. I recently attended a funeral and was ashamed of humanity to see majority of the people in jeans and T-shirts. What’s happening to us, for we have lost the glamour of dressing up for theatre, elegant restaurants, for formal occasions and …….
Thanks for the memories
Etiquette is certainly shunned Suresh.
The last funeral I went to of a friend of mine there too were so many not dressed in the respect of the occasion, I was.
Thank you for you comments.

I remember those days too. Shirt, tie...... Odd socks
Well you could never find any matching socks!!

A fine write, Andy.
Dressed for Thanksgiving almost forgot how. Spent so much time the past two years in genes.
Thank you Jerry. Back in the 1960s when jeans became a fashion item the prices shot up and I swore I would not buy them again - and I never have.
