Persevering Purpose

orchidee

Tune: Louvan

('Lord of all being, throned afar')

Romans 8 v.28-30

*********

We know all things work together

For good to those who love God, share

We in this assurance, 'tis they

Called in His purpose, e'en today

For whom He did foreknow, He too

Predestined them, it in His view

To be conformed to the image

Of His Son, He the way did bridge

The way for us of salvation

His people from every nation

That Christ be as first-born* among

Many, from each kindred, tribe, tongue

And whom He did predestinate

He also called, in His plans great

And them He also justified

And also them He glorified

--------

* 'first-born' here is not meaning literally, as an eldest child in a family,

but more in the sense of 'an heir whose position is unique',

or 'one who is pre-eminent', or 'first in rank'.

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.8.8.8. format. A bit verbose - I swallowed a dictionary today! Yet 'verbose' meaning 'using more words than is needed'. But all the words here are necessary!
