Up every day
Come wind, rain or shine
I've seen beautiful dawns
Seen nature rise
I've tended the land
Given love to my stock
I've spilt tears and blood
And watched it all grow
But I've heard the stories
Of what you think of me
That I don't care
The damage I don't see
I always plead poverty
I rape the land
I poison the wildlife
I destroy what I can
So ignorant!
If only you knew
The good that I do
To provide for you all
I'm judged by what is necessary
To keep you alive
I'd like to see you plough fields
Dead into the night.
Or have a sheep killed in front of a lamb
Because a dog was let loose from an owner's hand
Or worry that crops won't grow on time
Because nature runs her own clock
And doesn't run mine
Without my aid nature would never thrive
Because there's more that I do to keep her alive
So next time you want something spare a thought for me
And actually think kindly you ignorant breed

- Comment from author about the poem: After yesterday's poem 'skylark', I thought it only fair to attempt to write from the farmers perspective. A wonderful exercise to try. It really changes your perspective.

Good writing , crow 🙂 sometimes we can judge but they might think their doing their best .. I’m sure farmers care .. but I guess they are maybe just not perfect . A well expressed poem .
No one is perfect VB we just do the best that we can. I really enjoyed writing this because I had to set aside my own prejudice and ignorance. It was a good lesson in not judging and empathy. Who am I to scorn someone else because I don't agree with the way they do things?!
Well maybe you felt that way , because of your love for birds ? I understand what you are saying . But we can get angry , I guess if others are doing things ( which upset us ) even if they might think their doing their best
True my own feelings were stirred from what had been done. But I am a hypocrite as long as I buy the food that was produced on a land similar to the one that was tilled where the skylarks lived. Therefore, how can I be angry? Sad for the loss yes. But angry at the man? It's an interesting debate
Good words SC, the antipathy of your previous verse showing that we need to be aware of all the circumstances of why things are done.
Andy
True. A difficult thing to do sometimes!
Nice to read following our comments yesterday.
Lol. I just felt bad for the farmer
Good write SC.
Thanks Orchi
A very sincere poetry and very essential to praise those who keep us alive
God gave us all, but only few who spared their moments of relaxation to keep us fill
Well penned dear Saxon….
('ignorant' so abundant
while wording, as a collective
our societal 'ignorance')..
a sad state, indeed
thanks for sharing, dear Poet
Yes! I love this sequel. I read "Skylark" as well and I adore how you decided to write from both perspectives. It truly goes to show the way one's pov can change the way we see a certain person. Amazing!
2 sides to a coin. Your 2 poems reveal to us that before we judge we should listen to both sides. Very good.
