Tune: Melcombe
('New every morning is the love')
Based on a prayer by Thomas á Kempis, 15th Century monk.
************
O Lord my God, do not be far
From me, my guiding sun and star
My God, have regard to help me
Companion constant to me be
I have many thoughts and great fears
Afflicting my soul, and flow tears
How will I unhurt through them pass
Except I troubles on you cast?
How will I break them to pieces?
In this I rest, hope releases
My only one consolation
Flee to you [in] each tribulation
To trust in you, to call on you
From my inmost heart, this I do
Wait patiently, pray you console
Make me whole, body, spirit, soul

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.8.8.8. format. Not a series really, but a poem from a book with various prayers, anecdotes, quotes, etc. I am not to be verbatim, but neither to alter the original words too much.

Restorative and peaceful. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks CB.
A lovely hymn. I can hear the choir in harmony with only the tiniest hint of shrill
Thanks SC. That'll be them drowning me out - the shriller! lol.
Oh, I felt your frustration with the line: "Flee to you [in] each tribulation" it ALMOST fit the meter, but you did cleverly put the "in" in brackets. This is why I don't write as much metered poems, hehe. Nonetheless, you did marvelously! Thanks!
Thanks Rocky. I do that occasionally, or else some sentences may sound 'broken'.
You can use them square brackets too, as long as it's not overdone! lol.
Good one Orchi.
Thanks Gold.
