Oh, my goodness
What’s this I see?
Five hundred poems
All written by me
I never gave it a thought
Of reaching that milestone
I just followed my Muse’s lead
Otherwise, I’m all alone
I came here almost six years ago
The halls of My Poetic Side
A place to freely write
Amongst many poets diversified
Many poets I look up to
Talented pens everywhere I look
Some quite established
Even with published books
But with friends I don’t compete
As it’s not a competition
We all understand
Each other’s driven ambition
I remember my early days
Unbelieving of my own works
Finding my confidence
Ignoring so called friends smirks
So, here’s to number five hundred
Then moving on from there
To many, many more
Of which I’ll take that dare

- Comment from author about the poem: Yesterday I noticed my poem count here at My Poetic Side was at 500, so I had to write this one for that milestone. So today's poem is # 501. Would have been yesterday's entry had I noticed sooner. Oh well, I know Orchi, that's a deep subject. π

Congratulations on 500! Well done, AP. And completely agree with the sentiment, we're not competing but spurring and helping each other on. π
That's it Tom. We're all in this together. Thank you for reading and your comment. π
And I'm with you on the milestones, I'm hoping to reach 300 short stories in the next few weeks/months. I've got six to go. π
I'm gonna go out on a limb here Tom and predict you'll reach 300 on January 27th. But don't rush it, I was just looking at the rate that you've been making entries, I could be wrong, and that's ok. As long as you're writing my friend. Always keep that quill wet with ink. ππ
Yet again we're on the same page, literally. I write stories and poems as best I can and as the ideas come to me. As you say. the main thing is we keep writing. π Have a good weekend, mate. PS, who do you follow in the football? (We call it American football. I've always been a 49ers fan, since I was a kid.)
Well, I live about 50 miles from where the New England Patriots play at Gillette Stadium. But I\'ve never been a huge Patriots fan, I\'ll watch them and hope they win since they are my local team. But I\'ve been more impressed with the Chiefs, Bills and like you the 49ers. I wish Jimmy Garoppolo didn\'t get injured. The Patriots should have played him more, but they had Mr. so-called GOAT Brady π playing. No, I\'m more of a Red Sox guy. My dad played for the Red Sox minor league team in 1944 and 1947. He was a pitcher with a 1.36 ERA which was really good even back then. βΎ
Very cool about your dad and the Red Sox. I do enjoy the American sports, always have, despite the time difference. π I think that Baltimore naming their team after the Edgar Allan Poe poem is so cool.
Have to agree with you on the Ravens and Edgar Allen Poe, Ravens - Josh Allen. There's a connection there, eh? Maybe Edgar was predicting a winner. ππ¦ββ¬
May you have many more...
Thanks 2781, that's the plan. π
Oohh, well done there 500!
I could do 500 about KP but I would go insane before I finished. lol.
And then KP would have to share all your millions with Fido. Oh no, Fido with Botox. YIKES! π¬
I've dates for St Anthony The Great, who lived 251-356AD in January 356, aged 105.
There's St Paul The Hermit (not the biblical St Paul). It may be legend only, as I don't have exact dates, but it says he lived 249-342AD, so was 113 when he died!
We might write poems to age 113. heehee.
Thatβs quite an achievement AP. Sending you congratulations. Also sending you a big thank you for Joannie. A fav of mine. Such a talent. Takes me back to the sixties. Iβm all for poets supporting and encouraging each other and long may it last.
Thanks Cassie. And yes Joanie, a fav of mine also. Beautiful voice. Bob Dylan dropped the ball on that one, he should've stayed with her. And being supportive and positive of each other is the only way. That goes for in life as well. ππ
Many congratulations my fine literary friend .. & may there be many more .. πππ
Thank you Sir Neville, I trust you noticed my nod to you,
"Some quite established Even with published books" ππ
when it comes to thanking you .. I am at an increasing loss as to know quite where I should begin ..ππ
You my dear friend have quite efficiently crossed the finish line with exuberant style. ππ
CONGRATULATIONS πππ !!! I hope to another 500 and beyond!!! Youβre talented and I love your work! Thank you π
A thousand thank yous GenXer. Another 500? If I live to 100 maybe. π
You will!
Congratulations and a wish for many more to come. I second the no competition issue a poem can be great to one person and nothing to another, I write for myself and if someone else finds something in it all the better.
Thanks soren for the read and comment. I believe most of us here at MPS will agree that we find something in everyone's work that we see as inspirational in one way or another. π
So true if you read beyond the form, rhyme, and meter everyone is a human with emotions and experiences to express if one listens one can hear the human heartbeat beneath the words.
Well said soren. ππ
Congratulations AP, may you keep them coming.
Andy
Like many, I'm sometimes in a rut while my muse is on vacation. But that can only last just so long Andy. There's always something coming down the line. Thanks for reading and your comment Andy, I appreciate it. π
500 that's a lot but only an amazing poet would make it. Congratulations on 500 poems.
Thank you Lil. But there are poets here who have been here longer than me and have many more than I do. Thanks for the compliment. π
Oh A.P and I think I've read quite a few of them lol π may you get to a thousand and spread the joys as you do with each and every reader that is privileged to know you. π
1000, wow, wow wow. I stagger to imagine writing another 500. But, I guess stranger things have been done. And I\'m just the weirdo to try to do it. π€ͺ Thank you Teddy for all the praise. π«
Congrats. Very well done. Write on.
Thanks Thomas. Wish I could put it in the bank. π
