Are We Alone?

Accidental Poet

I’ve been hearing about them

Since the days of my youth

But the government says it

Could not be farther from the truth

There’s no such thing as

“Little Green Men”

But ask Travis Walton

For five days where he’s been?

UFOs and UAPs

Lights up in the sky

As yet, I’ve never seen one

But with eyes wide open I try

Our universe over thirteen billion years old

Bigger than anything else known

Trillions of stars with planets

Life can’t be just on our own

Our own planet Earth

Only four billion years old

Stands to reason

The new kids on the block so bold

The odds of us being all there is

Pretty damn small in comparison

Believers growing day by day

A dwindling bipartisan

The government running out of excuses

Now admit they don’t know what they are

The big question of “Are we alone?”

The answer is closer than the stars

Sooner or later

We’ll know for sure

The identity of our neighbors

So distant and obscure

Maybe we’ll have new friends

Stop in and sit awhile

What’s new in the cosmos?

Where all aliens learn to smile

    'Couple of things, AP:
    - You have much of that right, IMHO.
-Your Senate recently conducted a ?hearing? on this very subject.
Again, IMHO, the possibility of interstellar travel is just fantasy.
    - much waste of money on space travel and enquiries re this subject when there is so many problems on earth.

    - I like your stance of not automatically designating these so called aliens as enemies, but are prepared to accept them as potential friends.

*Your Brian Cox video excellent. great choice.

Well Dave, I think it's no surprise to anyone (human or alien) that we humans are a confusing species. We want peace, but we threaten each other with annihilation, we speak of love, yet we hate each other. I should think that aliens must not know what to think of us. We're such a conflicting society, it's no wonder they're not making an effort to make contact with us. Personally, I believe there is life beyond Earth. That if life can be on Earth, it can be anywhere in the universe under life sustaining conditions. But ultimately, I'm an optimistic at heart and would like to believe that aliens are smart enough to have respect for other life in the universe and friendships are possible. In life, it's better to have friends than enemies. So, in writing this poem, I chose a positive direction in regards to the possibilities of contact. Thanks for reading and commenting. πŸ‘½

I Completely agree AP, this world is so arrogant to think we are alone in the Universe.
There is a theory that when Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon his first words were "They are here" but they were obliterated by the so called powers that be.

Also it may be that the aliens have looked over our world and thought "What a bunch of idiots we will go back when they have all killed themselves!"

          • Accidental Poet

I can only imagine what else Armstrong might have seen and said of first stepping on the surface of the Moon. Thanks Andy.

            I'm gonna make like a Monkee ..
            I am a believer .. in fact, I believe
I was once abducted for exactly seventy five minutes .. Neville

            • Accidental Poet

And pray tell my Monkee friend, where were you in those 75 minutes? πŸ’πŸ‘½

I honestly don't know but the disorientation when I got home was incredible .. it still gives me shivers just thinking about it .. might as well have been a week .. the clock in my car stopped at the exact same time as the watch on my wrist and get this .. even the clock on the wall in my living room .. I just don't have a clue but have spoken to a lot of people including a few so called experts in the field who have referred to my experience as a Time Slip .. I was in the middle of nowhere at the time and about to walk my dog .. which I don't think I actually managed to do .. I do know that the sky was the strangest colour tho' .. N πŸ‘½

Looking for love in all the wrong places.
I don't believe it, more like a con.
                And if I am right,
                And they are wrong,
It won't bring me any pleasure.
                There's no hope in aliens,
But I can't change the coarse.
                Everything's a load of spin,
                That just brings divorce.
If I am wrong and they are right,
                We all still die,
                Right?

We are hoplessly alone in our insignificance .
