Once a mighty tree

sorenbarrett

Green turned to brown
nature's home in shards
Time's rot has taken the crown
memories for birds, the bards

A pile of decomposing wood splinters lay
where once towered mighty trees
Memories rot where rain and sun now play
discarded past carried by ants and breeze

Assending smoke marks the loss
Dank debris a funeral pyre
Beside it forked branches form a cross
washed in sputtering fire

Its shadows growing small to tall
A cemetery of ash and dust
sprouts new life that too will fall
Broken dreams inside chard crust

Always a great sadness to see trees felled. This poem is beautifully visual. Out of the ashes sprout new life. Mother Nature is so resilient. Wonderful poetry Soren. I have such an affinity with trees.

I am very much a tree hugger .. there's almost nowt worse than seeing them abused, or having their life cut short by foul deed, or indeed natural causes .. I think I know the one you are referring to .. there are several not far away from me ..

Thank you so much Neville I have always loved trees and feel they are a good analogy for what people ought to be. Peaceful, cooperative, giving and in harmony with nature. Thanks so much for the review

They get a bit drastic cutting back some parts of a local wood that we have a couple of miles from home. It needs clearing but then again, they've left a pathway full of brambles - impassable. Doh!

That is what they call political judgement. Thanks for the read Orchi always appreciate it.

I love trees. Living in an island like Puerto Rico, trees are everywhere. I enjoyed reading your poem. It reminded me of the enormous tree in my neighborhood.

Youโ€™re in that kind of mood. I mean, those falling leaves alone represent the chaos is scattered destruction

                • sorenbarrett

Oh Bobby you are so right, or at least at the time that I wrote this, I was. Thanks for the read my friend

"where once towered mighty trees" seems to be more and more places wherever I look. Humans too readily forget that without trees, and grass and bushes and such, there will be no us.

                    • sorenbarrett

Thanks Dan you are so right we give little thought to our own future let alone the enviornment. Thanks for the read.
