Modern Life

No mobile phone, an essential to live

Completely in this world I’m often told.

Could I ask why, if I may be so bold?

It seems some online suppliers connive

                              I think

To make make me live a life of frustration.

My alcohol and food I buy online,

Get delivered – for years it’s been just fine.

Now Multi Factor Authentication

                              They say

Saves me unauthorised account access

Using a onetime code to - you’ve guessed it…

My mobile phone – and nothing else will fit;

But I live a simple life without excess.

                             Now I’m

Obviously not built for modern life.

Beset by such problems I need to go

To somewhere quiet, ponder this and show

Some initiative, then acquire a wife……

Modern life can be so unknown now due to technology, I prefer to deal with real people face to face.

With you Andy, though I deal with people on MPS who feel real, like you.... LOL

This very problem friends of mine have had. If you don't own a smart phone your dead. As technology advances I have to retreat into my cave and survive off of poached meat cooked over a permitless fire. Good write Dave

Thanks, Soren. I spend time, effort and money keeping this PC working and viable plus cynical reviews of my own on some of the assaultive efforts made to screw me here. I hear harrowing tales of folks really done over via their hand held machines, and while I believe I could handle it, I don't really want to make the effort.

Good write, Dave. They can be frustrating.

At least your relic of bygone days still works nicely where mine kicked the bucket almost three months ago, leaving me stranded with only these handheld devils called cellphones. And that, in a day where some very necessary functions can still only be accomplished on a computer.
Lovely tribute to modern insanity with a teasing poignancy and excellent imagery. Thank you for sharing.

You are very welcome Missy. I cannot be without my PC and peripherals, I pay for excellent protection, examine carefully without clicking every strange (and some which feel familiar) emails and stay safe. At my vintage my eyesight and manual dexterity would make a handheld difficult.
Not good poetry, but I use what passes for that form to push ideas and complaints etc. Sometimes good fun.

I attempted a fusion poem on how I'm besieged with spam but since I ignorantly don't know how to invite any other users here and found it wasn't even listed on the main page, I deleted it. But I'm besieged with spam both in my email and in calls. Wish it was the kind you could fry, cuz I'd be rich, if only it was.

Life is too short to be dealing constantly with that kind of crap.
You need a good filter/bug hunter. Will cost you, but it's worth it.
With respect to the phony calls.... lengthy message on phone and don't pick up until they reveal themselves. Works on my landline - don't know (and don't intend to find out) how it works on a mobile handheld.

              • Cheeky Missy

Nah. I'll just keep my phones mute and delete every so many days, trying to find the one or two real phone calls made in the middle.

                • Doggerel Dave

Ah - that's the way it's done...I'll keep it in mind, just in case.....

The obsession with "security' only seems to make my life miserable. I am quite convinced than any bush league hacker can get to my information easier than I can. Good job.

                    • Doggerel Dave

No, there are places I don't want them to go (my bank account for one) but I've been ordering basics of all kinds, and have never had any trouble. Bush league wollopers seem to specialise in notifying me that a parcel is on the way and give me every encouragement to click here in order to obtain the latest information. I prefer to remain ignorant and await a big surprise...Am I disappointed when I don't get one......??

It does my head in too mate .. Indeed, I empathise .. there are few essentials in my life .. my mobile, my pc and my wife .. (I added wife because it made this whole rectangle seem more poetic) .. Only kiddin .. Neville

Felt certain you would own a mobile, but I lead a simple life and have never felt the need and as sure as hell don't intend to own one if I can help it and........ So you think the wife would be a good idea....where do you go to get a reasonably energetic version...?

                        • Neville

                          Ha .. yes, its a good idea .. it's been 43 years this 26th Sept .. 😎👍
