Temple of broken rock

sorenbarrett

Poems a bricolage, mythologies' seeds

patchwork of past sewn into flowering understanding

Stones of belief, covered with emotion's weeds

roof of language above a distant landing

Foundation of eons, corner posts of past

wisdom's light through windows

Memories nails, iron cast

dug from the rocks of Lindos

  • Comment from author about the poem: In the arts, bricolage (French for "DIY" or "do-it-yourself projects"; French pronunciation: [bʁikɔlaʒ]) is the construction or creation of a work from a diverse range of things that happen to be available, or a work constructed using mixed media. Lindos a Greek archaeological site close to Rhodes According to myth, Lindos was founded by the Dorians by the king Tlepolmus of Rhodes, who arrived in about the 10th century BC. It was one of six Dorian cities in the area known as the Dorian Hexapolis. The eastern location of Rhodes made it a natural meeting place between the Greeks and the Phoenicians, and by the 8th century Lindos was a major trading center. In the 6th century it was ruled by Cleobulus, one of the Seven Sages of Greece. The importance of Lindos declined after the foundation of the city of Rhodes in the late 5th century BC.

I spent many a happy moment among the Greek islands which at the time and has since served as the inspiration for many of my own scribbles .. nice ink sir

Thanks Neville when I think of poetry I think of Homer and all the passion and piecing together of myth and history with humble words as morter that often crumbles with time leaving only bare stone. I think of what we've lost in translation and memory slips and how magnificent what remains.

Thanks so much Teddy for the read and the comment it is always so appreciated. Couldn't help the analogy between the writing of poetry and the buildings of the past taken from what lay around them.

I've wondered at the depth of your knowledge in this area (of which I'm entirely ignorant) before Soren, so I won't repeat myself.
Richness and weight to be found here; many thanks.
