Dementia’s Cruel Kiss
There were clearly things lost
within himself
quite unlike any puzzle or maze
he had previously
known or ever got lost in before ..
I know what I know
and I know what I saw, he said ..
Yet still, I’m not able
to make sense of them no more ..

"....No more" Eh?! Dear, dear vault within each of us, containing such a wealth even we shall never fathom. And thus the elusive "he" is a mystery, even to himself. Beautifully rendered with a haunting poignancy and excellent imagery. Thank you for sharing. [I'm pulling third shift...]
Bless you Missy .. just be sure not to pull too hard or you might strain something πππ
Okay.
A sensitive write N.
Meanwhile - if it wasn't such a serious theme - KP drives me demented!
You are absolutely right Steven, it is a very serious topic indeed and it claims more victims each day around the globe .. I have been thinking about donating monies from my next anthology to a dementia related charity, possibly something research orientated .. maybe anyone following you here would let me know what they think .. Cheers, Neville π
Although I have never personally experienced it, I have seen it in many others, and this is the most poetic and apt description of it. Lovely if one could say such a thing about such a sad illness.
That is perfect .. thank you sorenbarrett .. Neville π
That has rammed its way close to home. I've still to process some moments and episodes from experience. Since it runs in the family that may be a factor for the near future to consider. mmm.... but good to read about it and meditate some.
I fear the beast runs in most families .. many thanks for calling arqios π
A very emotional and touching write about one of the most painful things to watch some one live with, thank you Neville
Thanks for sharing your obvious understanding my friend .. Neville π
You are very welcome
Having once worked in a CCRC which had a memory support unit, this poem hit home friend! β€οΈβπ©ΉπΉπ An awful disease hitting more and more people each day!

A moving piece, Neville. Such a cruel disease.
Absolutely Tom .. and thanks for stopping by on your way through .. Neville
Sensitive and compelling. Perhaps many of us have experienced the confusion and frustration at seeing someone we knew throughout our lives disappearing slowly but inevitably.
Dreadful isn't it .. many thanks r_i_s .. Neville ππ
Excellent write Nevilie
Thank you kindly brother T ..ππ
You're welcome
No 'me' no 'I' no........ 'soul' ....nothing.
...................... mushin = no mind ..
A beautiful concept, worthy of study, as clues on Google suggest; but as you above all people Neville must be aware, mushin has bugger all to do with dementia.π
correct .. I also believe it is a term, or an approximation of a term used by amongst others the Inuit to their dogs when they are required to pick up the pace .. as in mush, much .... mush ππ§πx
Ah - so differing connotations don't just hang off words in the English language?
I know all about dementia Neville, my wife had it and died from it. If people have not lived 24/7 with somebody who has dementia they haven't a clue about how awful it is.

I know mate, I know .. Neville
Love this. He enlightens and advises all to reassess what used to mean or what before solved or what to depend on.
