Soft or hard

sorenbarrett

Two lumps of ore dug from earth
Emissions from mother's sore, equal from birth

One squeezed gently, smelting hit or miss
Warmed not heated immensely, cooled with a kiss
A blade made sent me, too soft, I did dismiss
The second I vowed intently, not to treat like this

Hardened in the fires of misery, quenched in the waters of want
Tempered in life's pillory, forged blade sharp and gaunt
Honed on grit's subtlety, polished fine edge of a savant
Future leaders of society from adversity's font

The malleable seem to gain more durability and longevity, in general.

I have a thing about damascus steel & have a fine collection of sharp pointy things all custom made in forges from around the globe .. all kept in a temperature controlled environment .. I also have a thing about Damascus & Syria and loose sleep over both on a regular basis .. I may be a million miles off target today but it had to be said & it felt safer letting go of it here .. forgive me .. Neville

Ah yes they say that the best steel is forged in the hottest fire and where else could be hotter except one's own home at times.

Peace on earth my dear friend, peace on earth, may 2025 be a year where all world leaders find more wisdom and inspiration and demonstrate it for our young instead of what we have been seeing in these years🌹

A wonderful and deep poem that can both be taken outwardly (meaning an outward view of the world) or inwardly (at one's own self, circumstances, and influence on others). Either way, brilliantly penned, my dear friend! Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Could it be that adversity is the best teacher, if the student embraces it and learns. You've given much food for thought here, and I thank you.
