When I entered the silence surrounded me,
This was a hallowed place, full of answers,
A place where joy and wisdom abounded.
The occasional turn of a page was heard
Where somebody was seeking knowledge.
The footfalls so carefully trod
Not disturbing others from their peace.
As I creep down the rows
The books either side look down on me,
All these words needing to be read.
I stop and gaze at the majestic tomes
And slide one gently from the shelf.
The words so beautifully crafted on the page
Give so much pleasure in their form.
I read page after page
And there I find that for which I was looking.
I almost broke the silence with my thoughts
As there it was the information I needed.
So much information in this library,
This hallowed place,
Had now answered my question.
My bus was due in ten minutes.

Sadly now a declining facility in many places - a poignant write.
Very true Michael and the ones that are left have changed considerably as ours has in Evesham.
Andy
Sadly today & increasingly so they are now grossly underused and I fear it may not be too long before they may only be referenced in old history books and on line .. but I do take your point .. Neville
You may well be right Neville, such a shame.
Andy
Good write Gold.
Thanks Orchi.
With the internet, that public institution once hallowed, is now becoming obsolete and soon there will be no more literal books. These will be considered relics and antiques. Your poem takes me back to so many times that I spent in libraries and the different atmosphere of reverence there. A lovely write Andy
So true soren, thank you.
Andy
We have our libraries doing multi-delivery these days, print, multi-media, digital, etc… they are trying their best to ride the wave of change. 🙏🏻🕊
Yes arqios they have changed considerably. Shame.
Andy
Sadly now days underused, under valued and closing down, enjoyed the read

When I was younger, I spent much time in our local library. These days, not so. The internet means we have information at the touch of a button. I still like to wander in now and then. A topical write Andy. Have a good Thursday.
I was the same Cassie but luckily our library is still there.
